Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum was part of discussions amongst football twitter after one of his fans discovered that the Dutch international had liked a post by the popular football page 433.
The incident turned out to be controversial as the post in question claimed that the Portuguese international, Bruno Fernandes was the signing of the season for Manchester United.
Fans couldn’t believe their eyes as their own midfielder had indirectly implied that their most fierce rivals had made the signing of the season.
Mixed emotions were observed among the comments with some people believing that it’s in good spirits to think that a fellow sportsman has influenced his team to prosper, but other comments were negative and one of them clearly indicated that the Dutch international should be stripped off as a Liverpool player and sold in the upcoming transfer window.
This controversy comes to light during ongoing speculations of Gini’s future at LFC. Despite entering the last 12 months of his contract, Wijnaldum and Liverpool are yet to begin discussions over a new deal.
Although Wijnaldum has played an important role in helping Liverpool secure both the Premier League and Champions League titles, his age along with a poor assist record (0 assists in two consecutive seasons) may be signs of worry for the extension of his contract at the club.
