Twitter in splits as 5ft 7in Xherdan Shaqiri left grabbing air while trying to hold the crossbar

The decorated swiss star Xherdan Shakiri caused a laughter riot amongst fans with his unfortunate tumble into the opposition net.

Lyon emerged victorious in their midweek Europa League clash against Sparta Prague at Parc Olympique Lyonnaise, helping themselves to a scoreline of 3-0.

While the former Liverpool man, known for his astute technical ability, has never let his diminutive stature come in his way, Thursday night proved otherwise.

Trying to tap an incoming ball goal-wards, Shaqiri was unsuccessful in beating rival keeper Florin Nita.

Post the attack concluded, the bite-sized Swiss, running at full throttle, dodged Nita and in a bid to save himself from running into the net, leapt skywards to grab the crossbar.

The effort was in vain though, as the winger’s modest height of 5 feet 7 inches made the post seem out of reach and he could only grab on the air, consequently colliding head-first into the net in the most embarrassing fashion.

The Twitterverse was mockingly-sympathetic towards the little man, terming the incident as one of the “short people problems”.
