EA Sports to remove Marc Overmars from FIFA 22 after Ajax sexting scandal

The footballing world continues to react to the shocking circumstances under which Marc Overmars left AFC Ajax.

On Monday, Ajax released a statement that former Dutch footballer had stepped down from the role of Director of Football Affairs with immediate effect. He made the decision to leave following revelations about him having sent a series of inappropriate messages to several female colleagues over an extended period of time.

Overmars released a statement following his exit where he apologised for his actions and the misuse of his position.

Both Head Coach Erik ten Hag and Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar were shocked to hear about the misconduct having shared a close relationship with Overmars during his tenure at the club. Van der Sar ensured Ajax supporters that they will work to ensure a safe working climate for all at the club.

In light of these events, Overmars is set to be suspended from appearing in FIFA 22.

The removal has not yet been officially confirmed by EA Sports but recently leaked images circulating on social media channels suggest that it is only a matter of time.

As the organization made a quick decision to remove Mason Greenwood from all editions of the game following the sexual assault charges against the player were revealed, the same action should be expected against Overmars.

His Icon card would then not be appearing in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team packs or drafts.

Furthermore, to even the odds for all players, EA Sports is also expected to fix the price range in the transfer market to prevent anyone from profiting from the sudden price change.
