Arsenal fans air modest Ben White chant at Watford – And he loves it

It is clear that Arsenal fans have been waiting for an occasion such as their game against Watford at the weekend for some time now, where both quality performance and a meaningful result could be achieved.

Their sparkling youngsters such as Saka, Odegaard and Martinelli all combined to play out crisp one-touch football in transition, one much popularized by Arsene Wenger during his time at the club, to score the 3 goals which were enough to see off Watford’s late attempted comeback.

With the performance box checked, the win also sent Arsenal back into the top 4 spots who now have a point’s lead over Manchester United with 3 games in hand. Thus, the Watford game epitomises in many ways the ‘trust the process’ idea put forth by Gunners fans whilst backing manager Mikel Arteta even during tough times in the past.

But it hasn’t always been the attacking group that has got Arsenal to this position in the table as much rear-guard solidity should also be credited. Arsenal have kept 11 clean sheets this season in the Premier League, behind only Liverpool and Chelsea and also have the 5th best defensive record when it comes to goals conceded.

It would not have been possible to rack up these stats without a well-marshalled backline supporting the keeper and that has been provided by summer signing Ben White. Despite the lack of a clean sheet in the weekend, White put in a strong performance leading by example from the back, making 6 clearances and blocking 2 shots, according to whoscored.com.

Gunners fans have surely paid attention to his strong performances even while the attackers have got the most attention and have expressed their love for the Englishman with a very easy to understand new chant.

As White walked over to applaud the travelling Arsenal supporters following the full-time whistle, the fans rolled out the “Ole Ole Ole Ole, Benny White White White!” chant.

In this fan capture of the chant, White is seen visibly liking the new song for him by the fans and continued to applaud them for the energy they brought to the game.

The defender also took to Instagram to express his appreciation for the chant, posting a video of the song being sung along with a big heart emoji.

Having bolstered their chances of securing Champions League football for next season, Ben White would be asking more sustained support from their fans to help the team through the all-important final stretch.
