Liverpool fans hoping for a resurgence from their side against Wolves were let down in grand fashion, as the Reds walked away from Molineux having endured a 3-0 humiliation.
As has become a feature for Liverpool this season, the game saw a passive start from the away side, as they were on the receiving end of constant offensive forays from the Wolves.
Julen Lopetegui’s men found the breakthrough early on after Hee-Chan Hwang’s strike deflected off Joel Matip and crept into the back of the net.
The horror start for Liverpool continued to get even worse, as the home side found the 2nd through a debut goal from Craig Dawson.
In response, Liverpool offered little going forward in the first half and often looked a bit ponderous on the ball.
Jürgen Klopp’s signature ‘Gegenpress’ was also ineffective at best, his side simply lacked the intensity to stifle Wolves’ buildup.
Liverpool fared relatively better during the second 45, as there was visibly more impetus to their attacking play.
A couple of decent goal-scoring opportunities fell their way, but heroic defending from Wolves ensured that the scoreline remained 2-0.
And then, entirely against the run of play, the men in yellow added a third and secured 3 points, all through some sublime counter-attacking football.
The game could not have transpired any worse for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who in his post-match presser apologized to the fans and stated that their display was unacceptable.
This was a pretty justified and sound summation from the German, but if you’re looking for a more explosive analysis, look no further than this Twitter space conducted by a group of Liverpool fans online.
Exhausted and annoyed, these supporters were clearly at their wit’s end, as they launched into a brutal evaluation of the state of Liverpool.
The Twitter space was literally titled ‘Disgusting pathetic performance’, so you imagine just how explicitly the speakers tore into the team.
Aside from being thorough, their rants were also pretty hilarious, and highlights from the Space even went viral.
Take this clip for instance, the speaker embarks on a 90-second onslaught calling out everybody from Salah to Klopp, just for the sake of impartiality.
He then piles on even more criticism, ‘Manager who can’t manage, coach (Pep Lijnders) who can’t keep his f#*king mouth shut, he writes a book every time’.
‘Do you guys know that we now have more f#*king books released then we have away wins? Robertson – Book release, Henderson – book release, Pep Lijnders – book release, we have more book releases than away win.’
He then gives a fitting description of his rage, ‘My head is hot, my vein is popping out, the way we are so arrogant, we wrote 100 books we haven’t even won one title.’ ‘Imagine if we won 15 titles, will you make 15 movies and bring Morgan Freeman to f@*king speak on it?’
He also added a bit more on his issue with the books,’ F#*k you and f#*k your books! I bought
Pep Lijnders’ book and I will use it as toilet paper and I will wipe my sh*t with his face every f#*king week.’
You can rule out ‘Intensity’ as a stocking stuffer for this guy…
Nevertheless, he moved on to more pertinent topics after this particular rant, as he gave his 2 cents on the shambolic defensive performances by Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
He said, ‘Now let’s address the two biggest wh*res today, Matip and Gomez. Ice and Spice and Bambi on Ice on the football pitch. One stripper, two strippers. You go to GTA, you go to the strip club, you will see Matip and you will see Gomez together. And you know, if you pay extra you will get both in the same room because they’re both wh*res.”
Several burn wounds were inflicted with that one, this fan was really in no mood for mincing words.
For Liverpool fans, his comments came as harsh but ultimately true summations, and for neutrals watching on, it was simply a riot.
The Reds have a big one up next, the Merseyside derby against Sean Dyche’s Everton, a defeat here would see all hell break lose.
And in case that does happen, be on the lookout for Liverpool-centric Twitter Spaces. You will not regret it.
