The 2022 Qatar World Cup cemented Lionel Messi’s career as the greatest footballer of this generation. Six jerseys were worn by Lionel Messi in various matches in the 2022 World Cup including round of 16, quarter finals, semis and most importantly the final. These shirts were authenticated by Sports Investors Authentication through photo matching.

The auction is being held by Sotheby’s gallery in New York and they have already confirmed that the current bid has reached $5.2 million and that is including the buyer’s fees then the bid could go up to $6 million. With more than 10 days for the bidding to end, the current bid could go higher.

Currently the most expensive jersey auctioned off belonged to Michael Jordan, where his jersey went for $10 million. Meanwhile, the most expensive football jersey belongs to Diego Maradona whose hand of God jersey was sold for $9 million. Fans have always been ardent supporters in buying memorabilia. Among those jerseys of Messi, the most important being the jersey he wore for the match against France.

Australian midfielder, Cammy Devlin received a jersey from Messi after Argentina’s match against Australia, where they exchanged jerseys. Fans now look at Devlin to see what he will do with the jersey. He had revealed that the jersey is with his parents and that they wouldn’t let him have it.

In a sign of positivity, a portion of the auction money will be donated to the UNICAS Project, led by Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital with assistance from the Leo Messi Foundation. The money will go to the treatment of children with rare diseases.

Messi’s not only saving his teammates but also the rest of the world. The Argentinian is not just a great player, he showed that he isn’t going to forget his humble roots.
