Fan memorabilia comes in various shapes and sizes, from keychains and bobbleheads to jerseys and signed boots.
But one of the most controversial pieces of merchandise have been half and half scarves. They don’t have an allegiance to any club. They are meant primarily as a landmark to remember certain games.
Hardcore supporters believe that a piece of merch sporting two clubs at the same time is unacceptable.
Unfortunately for Charlton, their fans have not taken well to the club shop selling half and half scarves for their game against Wrexham.
In a picture taken by a fan, tons of such scarves have been displayed for sale, but the stock looks pretty much untouched.
It’s also surprising that the club shop themselves are selling these scarves, which are sold usually by stores and tiny pop-up shops outside the stadium.
The bigger picture is that usually such scarves are sold for games like the El Clasico, Champions League Final and World Cup finals- where there are plenty of neutrals who want to remember attending a significant game.
The truth is there aren’t many neutrals showing up for a Charlton-Wrexham League One game in the middle of October to purchase these scarves, with most fans already owning full scarves and jerseys. The only possible uniqueness of this fixture is that this is the first time these two sides face off in their history.
The Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust has acknowledged the outlash against the scarves and have noted the feedback- also admitting that the release of these scarves didn’t go the way the thought it would.
