Liverpool are blessed with a stacked midfield line with impressive variety in options.
But the reality is that Arne Slot is actually yet to sign a new midfielder with the traits to excel in his proactive playing system.
Well, the Reds are now looking to create more competition for their midfielders.
African ‘sports advisor’ Bassirou Sakho has now tipped Liverpool to be among the Premier League clubs keen on roping in AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara in the summer window.
He dubs Camara as ‘Senegal’s best prospect since Sadio Mane’.
Liverpool fans, of course, have happy memories of Mane’s stint with the club as he won both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles with them.
However, Liverpool could face stiff completion for Camara’s signing.
Sakho has also named Tottenham Hotspur as a club interested in signing the Monaco youngster, while also tipping Chelsea and Manchester City to enter the race for his acquisition.
He feels that the 21-year-old has all the traits to excel in the Premier League, stating: “He has all the qualities to succeed in this league, and it will also be a new page in his career for him. Monaco are in the process of examining all offers for his interest.
“He’s a kid full of promise, he’s already shown his know-how with the Senegalese youth teams, with the Senegalese senior national team as well, and with the clubs he’s played for. We’ve seen it with AS Monaco, where he’s one of the team’s metronomes. Despite his young age, he will be able to adapt alongside great players and learn to progress.”
Camara has six goal contributions (two goals, four assists) in 20 Ligue 1 games this season.
He boasts impressive defensive metrics, having made 87 tackles, 85 interceptions and 72 blocks in the league so far.
It has also been reported by CaughtOffside that Monaco would be willing to accept a fee of around £36 million- £41 million for the midfielder’s sale. Camara excels as a defensive midfielder and in a no.8 role.
He has all the traits to be strong competition for the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai and can add more explosiveness to the Reds’ midfield if they get him.
