Joe Gomez has been a Reds mainstay since joining from Charlton Athletic in 2015 for £3.5 million. At just 18, he broke into the first team, showing his ability to play across the backline—centre-back, right-back, and left-back.
Despite early promise, injuries, including a torn ACL in 2015 and a fractured leg in 2018, disrupted his progress. Yet, Gomez’s resilience shone through, contributing to Liverpool’s 2019 Champions League, 2019 FIFA Club World Cup, and 2020 Premier League triumphs. As the club’s longest-serving player since Jordan Henderson’s 2023 departure, his loyalty is unquestioned.
In the 2024/25 season, Gomez has appeared in nine Premier League games, logging 518 minutes. He stepped up in December, starting six straight matches after Ibrahima Konaté’s injury, partnering Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.
But a hamstring injury during a 5-0 rout of West Ham back in December 2024, halted his run.
Lately, Gomez has been grinding through rehab, and a recent Liverpool training video set social media ablaze.
A back shot of his sculpted shoulders and back muscles—honed at 6’2” and 77 kg—prompted fans to jest he’d land a role in Black Panther 3 if it eventually gets made.
More cheekily, supporters reckon his chiseled physique is prep for a bigger mission: scoring his first Liverpool goal.
In 222 senior appearances for Liverpool and Charlton, Gomez remains goalless, a quirky stat for the Premier League’s “Goalless Wonders Club” member.
As he bulks up, fans hope that ripped frame powers not just Liverpool’s title push but also his elusive first strike.
