The recent news that shocked American as well as global audiences alike was the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a right-wing spokesperson and supporter of Donald Trump.
Kirk’s death has been met with mixed reactions, with the conservative crowd mourning his loss as a young political activist known for his MAGA stances, while leftist forums have criticised his polarising speeches.
British TV presenter and sports broadcaster Laura Woods took to Twitter/X on Thursday morning to send out a message in support of the slain Kirk, whom she singled out as as an ” absolutely formidable commentator”, who “could debate in a relentless, yet respectful way”.
I really can’t get out of my head what has happened to Charlie Kirk. I watched him a lot, not because I agreed with everything he said, but because he was an absolutely formidable commentator and could debate in a relentless, yet respectful way. Shot in the throat for using his…

Laura Woods, a popular face in sports media and a famous TV personality, known for her hosting gigs in multiple networks, including ITV, Amazon Prime, and TNT Sports, has now sparked divided reactions among her fans and followers.
Kirk, founder of conservative youth activist group Turning Point, was a controversial figure in US politics and a staunch advocate of the US Government’s policies on immigration and gun laws.
How Did Fans React?
While most fans do not support the act of violence, they are holding Woods accountable for her right-wing arc.
Why do you feel like you have to justify your stance with his opinion? This is the problem in society. You’re terrified of the ramifications of agreeing with common sense.
Woods was defiant in her reply,“If I was terrified of ramifications I wouldn’t have spoken at all. Why don’t you take a step back and direct this at someone else.“
A fan believed that Wood would be a ‘housewife’ if Kirk had his way.
If it was left up to Charlie, then you’d be a housewife. Agree, death isn’t deserved just because you’re opinionated.
Woods known, for her outspoken attitude replied,
“This is the problem. A lot of his views are taken and misrepresented by people like you. His wife worked. She has a career as well as a family. So that’s just not true, is it. And if you watched him regularly, you’d have known that.“
While Woods cited the “horror” of witnessing clips of the shooting, one fan pointed out her selective outrage.
You know what I can’t get out of my head? The women and children I see every day getting shot and bombed to pieces whenever I open this app. Anything about that? Or is outrage only reserved for when it’s a white man who spent his life spewing bigotry and inciting violence?
Another fan chimed in, highlighting Woods’ hypocrisy and refusal of admission of the horrors of war in the Israel and Palestine conflict.
I’m glad that you feel strongly enough to speak out about murder! Charlie Kirk advocated for the murder of Palestinian men, women and children. Maybe you could find your voice to advocate for them?
Another fan, was even more colorful in his outrage, not withholding their emotions.
You mourn that piece of s*** while completely ignoring what is happening in Gaza. Not a word. F*** you.
A fan pointed out how Wood’s post would not sit well with her audience, but praised her for standing by her words.
“Wow. Fair play Laura. Posting this will definitely alienate you with a lot of people.“
Another fan, who sympathised with Kirk’s killing, commended Woods, and supported her for “standing up and saying something”.
I’m just a one voice you won’t see. But I wanted to say thank you for standing up and saying something. You don’t deserve vitriol you’re facing (going to face) in the UK. But know you did the right thing!
