Jeremie Frimpong is having the time of his life at Liverpool. The Dutch fullback has become a key cog in Arne Slot’s Liverpool after signing up for The Reds from Bayer Leverkusen this year, in a move which cost Liverpool £30 million. With his performances, every penny seems spent well. His happy-go-lucky charm and friendly demeanour have made him a darling of the Scousers, while his athletic runs, work rate, and technicality have made him one of the first names on Arne Slot’s teamsheet.
The Dutchman isn’t the tallest man on the field, but after yesterday’s Champions League thriller against Atletico Madrid, which Liverpool won 3-2 courtesy of a very late goal by Virgil van Dijk (which sent Diego Simeone into a furious rage), a clip of Frimpong has been going viral on footballing social media.

While Frimpong is rumoured to stand at 1.71 meters (5 feet 7 inches), the latest clip throws a bit of shade at that claim. In comparison, Mohamad Salah, who is around 1.75 metres, seems much taller here. Frimpong is unable to touch the ground after sitting on the adboard, unlike any other Liverpool player.
So how tall is Frimpong really?
Frimpong was a favourite at Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, and a vital part of their historic invincible run in 2023-24. The right-back, in this image, stands at shoulder height of Alonso. Alonso, a famous midfielder in his playing days and an icon for Liverpool and Real Madrid, stands at a respectable 6 feet, or 1.83 metres. In this comparison, Frimpong seems almost 6 inches shorter, coming up to Alonso’s neck.
German wonderkid Florian Wirtz and Frimpong share a wonderful friendship, with both of them playing together in Leverkusen before being reunited at Liverpool. Their tactical plays in the right-half space are synergistic, and both have amazing chemistry on the pitch. Wirtz stands at 1.77m, or 5 feet 9 inches. In this comparison, Frimpong is comfortably 2 inches shorter.
Memphis Depay, the Netherlands’ highest-ever goal-scorer, is a respected figure in the Dutch dressing room. He isn’t the tallest but stands at a respectable 1.78m or 5 feet 10 inches, with his dribbling and ball maneuvering being his key assets during his younger days at clubs like Manchester United and Olympique Lyonnais. Frimpong, with his arms around Depay, seems relatively close to the latter’s height, further fuelling the speculation that he is 5 feet 7 inches.
Virgil Van Dijk, Frimpong’s captain at both the national team and club, is one of the world’s best center-backs and a modern-day great. Known for his height and power, van Dijk stands tall at 1.95m, or 6 feet 5 inches. Van Dijk has a towering presence amongst the most prominent centrebacks due to his aerial strength, height, and insane game awareness. Frimpong, in this image beside the two Dutch superstars, looks similar to how a 5 feet 7 inch man would look in front of a 6 feet 5 inch tall man. Virgil Van Dijk also shares a similar career path as Frimpong, with both defenders having plied their trade at Scottish giants Celtic.
In this screengrab from a post-match interview with Burkina Faso defender Edmund Tapsoba and Jeremie Frimpong, the clear height difference between the two is visible. Tapsoba is closer in height to Virgil Van Dijk than Frimpong, with him standing tall at 1.94m.
In this image, Frimpong is celebrating a goal with his Liverpool teammates. Van Dijk, Ekitike and Milos Kerkez are all taller than him. The French forward Ekitike is 1.90 m, or 6 feet 3inches, and the Hungarian full-back Kerkez is 1.8m, or 5 feet 11 inches. Compared to them, Frimpong looks 5 feet 7 inches tall.
While Frimpong isn’t the tallest defender around, his height has not hindered his attacking prowess and defensive duties. While he is susceptible to long balls and isn’t known for his heading abilities, his reading of the game and agility is elite, making him a defensive powerhouse of a right-back. Lisandro Martinez, the Manchester United centre-back, was one of the best centre backs in the Premier League before an injury derailed his season in 2024-25. Martinez, who is 1.75m, or 5 feet 9 inches, might not be a very tall center back but his game-reading skills and on the ball abilities made him a Manchester United favourite.
Frimpong need not worry about his height at all. Egyptian legend Mohamed Salah is 1.75m tall, or 5 feet 9 inches. Frimpong stands close to Salah’s eye region. That confirms that Frimpong is 1.71m tall, or 5 feet 7.
As Jeremie Frimpong adjusts to life as a long-term replacement of Trent Alexander-Arnold, his height would be the least of his worries. The attacking fullback is only improving with every game.
