Ultimate Scream Returns: FC 26 Brings Back 99-Rated Madness After 6 Years

FC 26

The arrival of the Ultimate Scream promotion in EA Sports FC 26 Ultimate Team is one of the most anticipated events of the season after a 6 year long wait, and it’s all about those terrifying, yet tantalizing, 99 stats. EA have managed to keep this under wraps as many leakers and people in the community believed that EA were not planning on bringing this feature. Unlike standard inform cards, Ultimate Scream, or its spiritual successor Rulebreakers, fundamentally alters players’ attributes, often in unexpected and game changing ways. The core concept revolves around giving a selected group of players a massive, permanent statistical boost in one or two key areas, frequently pushing a specific face stat to the mythical 99 rating.

The promo made its debut in FIFA 17 and continued through FIFA 20, creating memorable moments like Marouane Fellaini with 99 pace or Per Mertesacker with 80 pace. These bizarre combinations made the game unpredictable and thrilling during the Halloween period.

In early editions of the event, all cards would have one stat boosted to 99 at any given time, which would then change periodically. This meant you could end up with a slow defender suddenly possessing 99 dribbling, or a winger hitting 99 pace to become an absolute nightmare for opponents. So for Fellaini his 99 pace stat was temporary as every full moon boosted the cards for a few days. So for those worried about the power curve, this should mot have any impact as it will only last a few days. When not activated, they perform like regular cards, keeping the meta from being completely disrupted long term. People still reminisce about Fellaini being an absolute bulldozer, waiting for the blood moon made the game fun for everyone for those few days.

We are also set to receive two scheduled boosts, the first upgrade called Role+ is applied on November 5, and the second called Role++ follows on December 4. Each boost enhances the player’s stats progressively, making them stronger as the event unfolds.

While the official list of Ultimate Scream players are leaked, given how no one saw this 99 reveal coming, the players could also be different so here are the players EA might target. Players who possess great all around stats but lack explosive speed are prime targets for a 99 Pace boost. This is arguably the most desirable upgrade in the game, turning solid players into elite ones. For world class defenders, an upgrade to 99 Shooting specifically, Shot Power and Long Shots transforms them into genuine threat from long range, corner headers, or even as a surprise late game striker. Smaller, technically gifted attackers who tend to get bullied off the ball could receive a 99 Physicality boost, allowing them to retain their agility while gaining the strength to hold off defenders. Certain pacey wingers or defensive minded midfielders, whose passing range is typically average, could get a 99 Passing boost, making them the ultimate playmakers on the field.

The return of Ultimate Scream after six years represents EA listening to community feedback and bringing back one of the most requested promos. With 99 rated stats potentially turning defenders into speedsters and strikers into unstoppable forces, this could be one of the most beloved promos in a long time.
