This New Premier League Show Keeps Fans Completely in the Dark Until Full Time

Arsenal, Premier League, Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur

Sky Sports is the primary television broadcaster for the Premier League in the United Kingdom. They remain the biggest rights holders in the country for the majority of the establishment of the Premier League in 1992.

They produce a wide range of football related shows like the ‘Pre-Match Show’ and the ‘Post-Match Show’ along with special flagship slots like Saturday Night Football, Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football, which features footballing legends and celebrities like Roy Keane, Micah Richards, Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp and many others.

Very recently, Sky launched a new programme called ‘In The Box’, made particularly for big games like matches among the traditional ‘Big 6’, consisting of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

These heavily anticipated ties draw a lot of attention towards the top flight in England, and the newly launched programme is specially meant to cater these matches between the biggest teams in England.

In the Box features four supporters from each club who are locked in a room with no communication to the outside world, cutting off all technology for the duration of the match between their clubs.

The contestants, throughout the duration of the game, are given vague information about the match through non-contextual screenshots of their teams’ play with the scoreline being kept as a complete secret until the very end of the match.

Once the match concludes, all eight contestants are brought together as the final scoreline is revealed after being kept in the dark for the past couple of hours.

The first episode was filmed for the first North London Derby of this season between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur where the hosts came out on top, thrashing their rivals 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Summer signing and England international midfielder, Eberechi Eze scored a hat-trick after Belgian international Leandro Trossard opened the scoring while opposition striker Richarlison scored a worldie from the half-way line of the pitch.

The pilot episode featured Arsenal nutters Grime Gran, Beau the Beard, Jordan Stephens and most notably, UK YouTube sensation Chris Dixon (ChrisMD), whereas their rivals, the Lilywhites, were represented by Spurs legend and World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles, Spurs DJ and lifelong fan Jess Iszatt, comedian Michael McIntyre, along with FA Cup winner and former Spurs and England international player Gary Lineker.

The timer started as the ball was kicked off in the match with the first screenshot of Declan Rice’s early close range attempt being provided to the contestants, causing an early stir amongst them.

The contestants discussed their predicted score line for the first-half during the 15 minute break in half-time with many predicting a goalless scoreline while in reality the Gunners led 2-0.

At the very end the contestants were asked for their final predictions as every single one of the contestants failed to guess the correct scoreline.

The contestants had some bizarre opinions about the final scoreline,

ChrisMD predicted a goalless scoreline of 0-0. Jordan Stephens followed in Chris’ footsteps by predicting a draw, with both teams getting on the scoresheet in a 1-1 affair. Beau the Beard and Grime Gran backed the Gunners to collect all 3 points by predicting a 3-2 and 1-0 scoreline, respectively.

Their counterparts had similar peculiar predictions with both former players Gary Lineker and Ossie Ardiles predicting a 1-0 victory to Spurs. Jess Iszatt was more confident in her club than the former players going for a 2-0 victory to Spurs whereas Michael McIntyre showed less faith in his team, opting to predict a goalless stalemate instead.

After a suspense filled final countdown, the full-time scoreline of the Gunners prevailing 4-1, was revealed to the contestants leaving the Arsenal fans jumping and elated in their celebrations as the Spurs fans were in sheer disbelief.

The Arsenal fans received further good news as they learned about midfielder Eberechi Eze’s hat-trick before receiving a warm message from manager Mikel Arteta congratulating the Gunners supporters featured on the show.

The show has instantly become a fan favourite amongst Premier League watchers online with many looking forward to further episodes during big matchups. If Sky Sports would choose to continue this format, the next episode of ‘In The Box’ could very well be during league leaders Arsenal’s mouth-watering visit to Stamford Bridge to face second-placed Chelsea in a thrilling London derby in the upcoming weekend.
