The North London Derby for Arsenal fans last Sunday had ended in a sweet, thumping 4-1 victory against Spurs.
On the field, Eberechi Eze took the spotlight of the derby with his magnificent hat-trick, meanwhile Richarlison scored a worldie from more than 20 yards out.
But off the field, the spotlight was taken by someone else.
Gemma Chan, the famous British actress of Asian descent, had posted a picture of her in an Arsenal jersey after the game on her Instagram handle.
She was also present at the Emirates Stadium to watch the game.
Following this, fans online started to debate whether the Crazy Rich Asians and Marvel Eternals is a genuine fan of the Gunners or just a bandwagoner.

If we look at her past engagements on X, it suggests that she has been a fan of the Gunners since a very long time. Her tweets from as back as 2011 shows that she’s been in the ‘trenches’.

Even in an interview with The Standard back in 2015, she described herself as a dedicated Arsenal supporter and also admitted that she is a season ticket holder and even has a “Gunners duvet cover”.
She has also been listed among notable supporters of Arsenal.
While she has admitted to being committed as an Arsenal fan, there is not a publicly disclosed information of exactly how long she has supported Arsenal for (e.g. since childhood, or from early adulthood).
People associate Gemma Chan as a bandwagoner because there have been a lot of instances in the past where famous celebrities or personalities have come across as “glory hunters” or ones who are a fan of multiple clubs, negating the “loyalty” factor.
But Gemma Chan’s case is different from the rest. She has publicly expressed her support for Arsenal in interviews, and buying a season ticket and personal goods demonstrates that she spends time and identity in the club even outside the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
Her loyalty goes back before more celebrities started to follow Arsenal. She is regarded as a long-time fan, not someone who just started following the team recently.
Her tweets from the past also suggest exactly the same. Those tweets are more than a decade old.
Gemma Chan’s support for Arsenal stems from true long-term passion, not glory-hunting. Her dedication, genuineness, and obvious pride towards the club makes her a respected, true Gunner amongst celebrity fans.
