A footballer’s boots are the most important part of their gear. Not only do they help in playing better, but they also add to the aesthetic, making them look good while also being a great tool to send a message.

With advancements in technology, boots have not only become lighter, but they’ve also been made more dynamic and personalized. The boot manufacturers utilize data analytics and biomechanics to engineer specialized boots for better traction, touch, and protection.

Football’s first fully customized boot was introduced in 2006. These days, footballers get fully customized boots that are personalized to suit their requirements to deliver better performance.

Ola Aina of Nottingham Forest has pushed the envelope even further as he has designed his own boots from scratch. The Nottingham Forest full-back has partnered up with sustainable brand Sokito and designed his own signature football boot that he will be wearing at AFCON (African Cup of Nations) 2025-26, starting December 21st.

Sokito is a brand built by players, for the players, and they craft eco-friendly football boots. He was introduced to Sokita during AFCON 2023-24. Later on, he joined dozens of footballers and became an investor in the up-and-coming brand.

Aina took a hands-on approach to creating his signature boot and personalized the ‘Scudetta’ model.

The eco-friendly brand has made waves across football this past year, and despite still being in infancy as a brand, its roster keeps spreading across the world’s biggest leagues. In fact, 2024 saw them securing over £1.1 million of investment from 40 players.

The collaboration between Aina and Sokito has been 18 months in the making. Named “Mr Lulu”, a nod to his nickname, they are light green in design as Aina utilized his passion for Nigerian culture while also paying tribute to the iconic Super Eagles kits of the past.

The boot’s base is embellished with hand-drawn details that capture Aina’s long-held passion for design, with the collab’s Mr Lulu logo featured on the side and insole of the boot.

Moreover, freeform motifs adorning the Mr Lulu include leaves, wings, and the continent of Africa, outlined in gold on the instep.

Utilizing Scudetta as the canvas, Aina’s release comes with one technological tweak, featuring a 100% knit tongue for enhanced comfort and performance.

As the norm with Sokito, the boots are made using plant-based materials, from bamboo to castor beans to recycled plastic.

The Mr Lulu Sokito Scudetta is set to drop on December 5th and will be limited to just 1000 pairs.
