Clever Way Wolves Fans Turned 90s Grunge Hit Into Mateus Mane Chant

Football Chants, Mateus Mane, Premier League, Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers would pray for a reset button. They are having a season to forget languishing at the bottom of Premier League table. Worse than that, is the fact, they hold the record for longest winless start in the league. In 19 games this season, Wolves have managed to draw 3 and loss 16 times. They currently have 3 points in their tally and anything for them to get into the double digit will atleast require 2 wins which seems far away.

For a season little to enjoy, the Wolves fans have found some solace in the rise of the youngster, Mateus Mane. The 18-year old has displayed himself as a promising prospect with the limited chances he was given.

Mateus Mane was no earlier playing non-league football until last year for Rochdale. He was signed by Wolves in March 2024, played in the junior team and was immediately promoted to the senior squad this season. Although in most games he was in the bench, he made his full debut on Saturday at Anfield.

He felt that he had deserved the starting spot for the hard work he has put in every training session.

It felt good getting my first start in the Premier League, I feel like I deserved it, I’ve worked hard in training and when I came on to play in every game. I feel like I deserved it. I just believe in myself, I’ve confidence in myself that I deserve to be here. This is where I want to be, I’m here and I want to take people’s places”.

On the eve of New Year, Mane yet again started the game, exhibiting an impressive performance. With 82% pass completion, he had won 4 out of 7 ground duels. He also had two succesful dribbles, establishing his excellence in the free roaming role given to him.

At the end of the game when the Wolves players moved closer to the away fans for thanking gesture, Mane had a special chant choired by the fans.

The Wolves fans had taken inspiration from the 1994 anti-war grunge anthem “Zombie” by The Cranberries, and had tweaked some of its lyrics.

Zombie, zombie, zombie
What’s in your head? In your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie

They had replaced the words into “Mane Mane Mane , he is in your head”, singing continuously.

Wolves fans are completely in awe of the hid’s talent and hoping for him to stay with them for a longer time.

@AA_Richards
Matheus Mane looks a hell of a player.
So comfortable on the ball, works hard, diligent defensively, carries a threat, can beat a man. Really impressive again tonight.

@cfoghansen
Very good player. I’m really impressed by his ability and willingness to receive the ball in difficult areas, control it, and then do something clever with it. He also looks completely unfazed by the occasion

@perthwolves1
He is a pleasure to watch

@HCfootball01
Wolves have a serious player in Mateus Mane btw.

@SzoboSeason48
Was brilliant against Liverpool, if they can keep hold of him they are very lucky

@mark_spruce
Need to tie him to a contract in Jan. Just hope the fans dont lump to much pressure on him he is still very young

Mateus Mane gives the fans reasons to celebrate and the motivation to turn up for every game this season. It is in the hands of Wolves to keep him at any cost as their Golden Boy could bring them back to the Premier League in case of a relegation.
