2026, the year of the next FIFA World Cup, is finally here, and the countdown has officially begun.
On the road to the biggest tournament in football, Adidas and Nike have been busy releasing kits for the nations, but it looks like Puma has joined the party as well, as Ghana’s home and away kits have leaked online.
Ghana, also known as The Black Stars, typically wears home kits in shades of white or yellow, with the colors and design reflecting Ghana’s traditions and national heritage. Moreover, their jerseys always have a black star and the Ghanaian national flag included in the design, be it in the form of sleeve stripes, the neck stripe, or anywhere else.
However, the leaked Ghana home kit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is slightly different.

The jersey design features a white base accented with bold, abstract line patterns in the colors red, yellow, and green, symbolizing the country’s national colors and cultural vibrancy.
Moreover, the iconic black star, the powerful emblem of Ghana’s pride and identity, is placed at the center, with the Puma logo and the Ghana Football Association crest positioned on either side.
Puma, the kit manufacturers of Ghana, have gone for a cobweb-like design in the middle to represent the famous Kweku Ananse motif.
“Kweku Ananse” is the legendary trickster figure from the West African and Caribbean folklore, where Ananse (or Anansi) means “Spider” in the Akan language of Ghana, while “Kweku” signifies he was born on a Wednesday.
The Ananse (Spider), the son of Nyame, the African Sky God, and Asase Ya, the Earth Goddess, was born at Lake Bosumtwi in modern-day Ghana
In his youth, Anansi was smart but extremely mischievous, so he was turned into a spider by his angry father, Nyame, who was enraged after Anansi refused to give up his mischievous ways.

Anansi stories originated in Ghana many centuries ago and spread by oral tradition once Africans were brought in as slaves to America and the Caribbean in the early 1500s. To this day, the Anansi stories are passed down generation after generation by their elders.
Popular for his mischief, cleverness, and ability to embody wisdom and foolishness, the children are taught moral lessons through the Kweku Ananse tales that are central to Akan culture.

In every tale, Kwaku Anansi serves as both the source of cleverness as well as the cautionary figure who eventually falls victim to his schemes.
According to African folklore, some traditions also depict Anansi as interacting with gods and humans, while the web symbolizes the interconnectedness of life, community, and knowledge.
Despite the historic roots, the kit’s design has received mixed reviews from fans. While there are supporters of the new design, citing that it is a fresh concept that moves away from the traditional kits, others criticized the design for being too busy and overly colorful.
As neither Puma nor Ghana have officially confirmed these kit designs, fans are coming up with their own color schemes in a bid to improve the home kit’s look.
An X user @ma_lo_nzybahd created a gorgeous golden version of the same kit.

Meanwhile, @Thenew_guyy9 came up with a Venom-themed kit that looks beautiful, but the Black Star isn’t clearly visible with the black-colored base of the jersey.

Ghana is placed in Group L and will be taking on England, Croatia, and Panama for a place in the knockout rounds of the World Cup.
What do you make of the kit? Did you like the history-rooted design, or was there too much going on for a football kit? Let us know in the comments section.
