SSC Napoli has unveiled a special red kit for the 2026/27 season as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.
Made by EA7, the shirt features an unusual reverse badge layout, with the Napoli crest on the right chest and the EA7 logo on the left.
The design recreates the layout worn during the 1986/87 season, when Diego Maradona led Napoli to their first Serie A title, making it a tribute to one of the most important campaigns in the club’s history.
The shirt’s deep red color represents Mount Vesuvius, one of Naples’ most recognizable landmarks, while sky blue and white trim on the collar and sleeve cuffs reflects the club’s traditional colors. Inside the collar is a gold “ceNto” logo marking Napoli’s 100th anniversary (1926-2026), and “Partenopei” is printed on the back of the neck as a tribute to the city and its people.
Napoli are not the only club to have used a reverse badge.
Rosario Central wore a similar layout during the 1986 season, while Sunderland used it in 1983/84.
River Plate also featured the badge on the right during the late 1980s, Besiktas did so in the 2011/12 season, and Club Brugge used reverse badge designs on several kits between 1986 and 1992.
At international level, Senegal wore right-side crests for many years, and Germany used the layout on its 2004 goalkeeper kit.
Reverse badge placement is usually used to recreate historic shirts rather than for functional reasons. Before the 1990s, there was no standard position for club crests, so manufacturers often placed the badge on either side depending on the design. Clubs now bring back the layout to celebrate memorable seasons, anniversaries, or iconic teams.
In some older kits, the badge was also moved to the right to make room for league champion patches, such as Italy’s Scudetto, on the left chest.
Alongside its retro design, the authentic match shirt includes modern technology. An NFC chip is built into the lower hem, allowing supporters to scan the jersey with a smartphone to access exclusive digital content, rewards and features through the Official SSC Napoli Store. It combines a design inspired by the club’s past with technology aimed at today’s supporters.
