Squeezed Out Baleba and Tielemans? Kobbie Mainoo’s Minutes Are Fueling Man United Transfer Talk

Kobbie Mainoo, Manchester United

Manchester United‘s performance has become a hot topic for every football fan. United went nine matches without a win across all competitions and sat just above the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference, before beating AS Roma in the Champions League this week. During this difficult period, Old Trafford fans not only protested against the ownership but also demanded systemic changes within the team.

But even in such tough times, the young talents coming out of Manchester United’s academy have always kept the fans’ hopes alive. Among those young stars, the name is Kobbie Mainoo.

When a talented player doesn’t get a spot in the regular starting 11, all sorts of speculation and transfer rumors start about their future in the football world. Something similar is being seen with Mainoo as well, where, because of his talent, big European clubs are keeping an eye on his situation.

Meanwhile, Fraser Fletcher’s latest report from TEAMtalk has brought a big update on Mainoo’s Manchester United future. According to TEAMtalk, Mainoo isn’t getting as much game time as he probably should, which has once again heated up the rumors about his future transfer.

“Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United is once again a talking point because his game time perhaps hasn’t been as much as he would have wanted,” Fletcher said. “The arrival of  Baleba and  Tielemans for example, two players in and around his position that have again put him out of first team plans. He is still getting some minutes but perhaps not as many as people would like and that has alerted the big clubs, those big players again to his potential availability come January.

“But Manchester United sources say that he isn’t for sale and if he was to go it would take a big fee still. Highly admired by Michael Carrick and Manchester United and a part of their longer term plans. Of course, they want to see him get more minutes and I’m sure he will over the course of the season, but we’ll wait and see because if he doesn’t, then in January, it could be once again some noise around the future of Kobbie Mainoo.”

However, the report also makes it clear that manager Michael Carrick considers Mainoo a very important part of their long-term plans and has no intention of selling him in the January transfer window.

At the start of the season, with new midfielders like Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans joining the team, competition for spots in the central midfield has become pretty tough. Because of this, Mainoo isn’t getting as many minutes as people or fans were hoping for.

Seeing this limited game time, European powerhouses like Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and other top clubs have gotten alert for the January transfer window. But the Man United management has made it clear that Mainoo is ‘not for sale,’ and even if any club thinks about buying him, it would require a very big transfer fee.

Earlier, when Ruben Amorim was the head coach of Manchester United, Mainoo wasn’t getting a spot in his 3-4-2-1 formation and didn’t get a single Premier League start. At that time, Mainoo even thought about leaving the club or going out on loan.

But in January, when Michael Carrick took over, he brought Mainoo back to his natural central midfield role. Under Carrick, Mainoo made a comeback, earning him a recall to the England national team, and also signed a new long-term contract with the club.

Mainoo has publicly said that the entire squad stands with the manager and they want to repay the fans and the manager for their support by winning on the pitch.

Mainoo’s qualities could make him Manchester United’s next captain, as he is not only an academy graduate but also understands the club’s values well.

Manchester United’s next three fixtures begin with a Premier League home match against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday, at 16:30 on Sky Sports, followed by a high-profile away trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, before they travel to Portugal for a UEFA Champions League clash against Sporting at the Estádio José Alvalade on 25 November at 20:00 on TNT Sports.
