Aitana Bonmati, Barcelona’s Women footballing icon and 3 time Ballon d’Or winner, is a household favourite for every Culer.

The Spaniard is known much for her footballing brilliance and a bit too much for her beauty.

In seven starts this season for the club, Bonmati had recorded 6 goals and 3 assists. Unfortunately, her season was cut short due to a injury on her left fibula and is expected to return to the pitch only in April.

But Barcelona did not lose the momentum, comfortably placed at the top of the table with 48 points, ten points ahead of their rivals Real Madrid in the second place.

Recently they secured the Spanish Super cup with a 2-0 victory over the same opposition. But Bonmati could only support her team off the field.

In the meantime during her recovery, she has given a headline topper for the Spanish media outlets.

A recent reveal about her sexuality has taken the internet by storm as many have considered it as a surprise nullifying the rumours about her.

Aitana Bonmati did a Q&A session on her Instagram story with the fans on Monday.

The 28 year old answered many questions, among which one was regarding her sexuality.

One fan had asked “Do you like men, women or both?”.

Answering the question would be the first time, she is revealing her sexuality personally, and she did confirm, she is straight.

She answered the question saying, “Men. I don’t need to say it, but i respect all the ways of bonding and wanting”, implying that she respects the privacy and choice of fellow others, irrespective of whether they are her friends.

This had come much to the surprise for women football fans who were of the perception that Bonmati was a lesbian in nature, although no sources or herself claimed it.

The reason for the speculation around her sexuality had been because of the familiarity and regularity of LGBTQ footballers in Spanish National team. Many Spanish Women footballers have come up to be lesbians.

Even more notable figure, her own teammate and Captain, Alexia Putellas, had revealed her lesbian nature.

It was no mean a random guess about Bonmati’s sexuality with similar instances like these around her.

In such a scenario, Bonmati clearing the air around her sexuality had brought some disappointment and relief at the same time.

For people who expected her to be a same gender lover, Bonmati advocated her love for men.

However it is important to note that it is completely okay to be a lesbian, and it is important to uphold a responsible society which does not condemn it.
