From DUI Arrest to Shawarma Ads: Southampton’s New Striker Cyle Larin is Pure Entertainment

Southampton find themselves in a situation strange to their standards.

Following their relegation from the Premier League last season, they find themselves at the 10th place in Championship, in the second division of English Football.

After sacking Will Still in December, the situation is far from better, with just 4 wins in 12 league games under new manager Tonda Eckert.

In distressing circumstances as these, Southampton have received unfamiliar attention due to their new signing.

Southampton made a deadline day signing, by bringing in Cyle larin on loan from spanish club RCD Mallorca.

This makes the canadian striker’s first venture in English football, having played for teams like Besiktas, Orlando City and Feyenoord, previously.

He does not bring any great numbers with him though, scoring just a single goal in games this season on loan for the Dutch giants.

The transfer made Southampton fans look deep into his history and what they found out was funny and surprising.

Cyle Larin had once been arrested for Driving under influence of substances, that were unpermittable.

During his time at Orlando City in 2017, Larin was arrested for driving in the wrong lane under alcoholic influence. When interrogated by the policemen, Larin had made his apologies, that he was not aware of the lane rules in Florida, as he was from Canada.

But it was very silly from the Canadian as the police had told him that there were more than one car that he had passed opposite to, ensuring that it was a lack of focus due to alcohol consumption.

Southampton fans finding these, had them boast of their new striker in job, sarcastically though.

This is not even the funniest part in his history books, as Larin had featured in an advert for the Osmow’s Shawarma in 2022, which is hilarious at first sight.

Larin is seen to be unconscious in the ad, and with the physio ineffective with his methods, the head coach calls out an Osmow’s employee who comes to rescue Larin.

As he brings a shawarma close to Larin’s nose, Larin wakes up by sniffing its smell.

Again, the Southampton fans have found out the clip to be entertaining and funny, and could look to be a remedy if Larin needs a bit of help or motivation, when on the pitch.

Apart from his off the field antics, Larin had been severely under scrutiny by the Feyenoord fans, who could not be contended with his disastrous performances on the pitch for them.

The signing was a blessing in disguise for the Feyenoord supporters, as the striker had put an utterly disappointing display in his last game for the Dutch team against Real Betis.

So bad was the impact, that they had compilated his misses across the game into an edit.

The Saints hope for better outcomes but cannot stop laughing at the edit Feyenoord fans had made for the Southampton supporters, to give a glimpse of Larin.

Cyle Larin could find some lost rhythm in Southampton he would not be playing in a top division team now, but given the uncertainty and toughness of Championship, we will have to wait to see if Larin provides more instances of remembrance.
