The Norway and Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has reacted to the recent release of a remix of his old parody rap song.
The official house remix of the 2016 song “Kygo Jo” was released on streaming platforms by world-famous Norwegian DJ Kygo.
Back in 2016, a 16-year-old Haaland formed a parody rap group called Flow Kingz out of boredom during a Norway youth national team camp alongside his teammates Erik Botheim and Erik Tobias Sandberg.
Performing under the rap pseudonym “Lyng,” Haaland starred in a low-budget viral music video for “Kygo Jo”, which featured random lyrics about salads, gas gas grills, phone subscriptions, and solving global crises. The title of the song is a direct, humorous shoutout to DJ Kygo, who was already Norway’s biggest global musical icon when the teenage footballers recorded the track.
Kygo (real name Kyrre Gorvell-Dahll) is a 34-year-old Norwegian DJ, record producer, and songwriter who achieved global superstardom as the pioneer of the “tropical house” music genre. Born in Singapore and raised in Bergen, Norway, he transitioned from a childhood classical pianist to an electronic music prodigy after being inspired by Avicii.
This decade-old track resurfaced heavily during Norway’s historic 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. DJ Kygo publicly promised to produce and release an official remix of the track if Haaland scored against Brazil in their Round of 16 match.
Haaland successfully forced the track’s release by scoring a brace in Norway’s historic 2-1 World Cup victory over Brazil, securing his nation’s first-ever spot in a World Cup quarter-final. True to his word, Kygo immediately got to work, with Haaland even spotted actively giving the DJ studio notes between knockout fixtures. Days later, the highly anticipated electronic remix officially dropped on Spotify and YouTube.

Following the remix’s official release, football fans worldwide have been thoroughly enjoying the track.
Seeing the song released and quickly become viral hit, Haaland hilariously posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “Made it moment! Thanks, @kygomusic Does this mean I’m officially an artist now?”

His Flow Kingz groupmates, Erik Botheim and Erik Tobias Sandberg, are also active professional footballers, currently playing for Malmö FF and Icelandic side ÍA respectively. Both have fully embraced the revival of their childhood meme.
With the viral hit dominating the airwaves, Haaland and his teammates will look to keep the good vibes rolling when Norway faces England in a highly anticipated World Cup quarter-final clash on July 11.
