The Reds are starting to look like the team to beat in the Premier League under new manager Andoni Iraola, after securing back-to-back wins in recent weeks.
Florian Wirtz has been performing well in the middle of the park in Iraola’s system, having scored in consecutive games in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Currently, Wirtz is the only out-and-out attacking midfielder at the club, and the injury to Dominik Szoboszlai could force manager Iraola to bring in reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool are monitoring Lennart Karl’s development at Bayern Munich and could make a move for him.
However, Liverpool are not the only club keen on Karl, as Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested, while Real Madrid and Barcelona remain in the mix.
Lennart Karl enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season at Bayern Munich, but this term, he has fallen down the pecking order and is unable to get regular game time in the team.
Earlier this year, Karl signed a long-term contract with Bayern Munich, but under manager Vincent Kompany, he has seen his game time decrease in the current campaign.
Karl has made ten appearances in all competitions this season, but only started four games, and contributed to two goals.
It is believed that an imminent exit is not on the cards for Karl, but in the event things do not change quickly regarding his game time at Allianz Arena, a move could become a potential outcome.
Karl is a versatile player who can operate as an attacking midfielder and also feature as a right winger to help the front line.
At Liverpool, the winger position might be a far-fetched idea at the moment, as the right-winger spot is currently in the process of being nailed down by Bradley Barcola, with Victor Munoz as the backup.
The attacking midfield position is taken up by Florian Wirtz, but the German international sustained an injury during Liverpool’s clash against Brighton, and it is unclear how serious the injury is.
Andoni Iraola said on Liverpool’s official website, when asked about Wirtz’s injury: “Unfortunately, he had to leave the pitch with a small twist of the ankle. It doesn’t look very big but we are playing every three days so we need to see where he is.”
Florian Wirtz has been an integral part of Liverpool’s attack this campaign, and in the event he is sidelined for an extended period of time, manager Iraola will want to bring in reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
Last summer, Liverpool were in the race to possibly sign Karl, but he decided to stay put at Bayern Munich, but his position has now changed.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool could beat off competition from other European clubs to sign Lennart Karl if he becomes available in the upcoming winter transfer window.
At the moment, Liverpool will focus on Chelsea, as both sides will meet in the EFL Cup next, and after eliminating Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds will want to do the same and progress to the next round.
