With our first game done, we are able to take some information about how DC affects players points for our FPL teams. Here is an image of how many contributions each player was able to earn in the Liverpool and Bournemouth game.

Virgil Van Dijk being the joint highest is not surprising given his performance. According to OptaJoe: Virgil van Dijk made 17 clearances against Bournemouth, 13 of which were headed clearances; both were his most in a single Premier League game for Liverpool, on what was his 235th such appearance. Dominance.
Virgil Van Dijk hit 20 defensive contributions in this game.

Imagine if it wasn’t capped at 2 points, he’d have managed 4 DEFCON points!
Do you think they should have capped it?
What is surprising is that Tavernier and Adams would earn 20 and 18 points respectively. Midfielders get contributions for recoveries something that defenders do not. Remember midfielders need 12 contributions to get the points where as defenders only need 10. So these two were able to cross that very easily. This earned them a extra two points and they finished on four points. Given that an assist is only a point more, players like Adams could become more popular as it is easier to rack up these DC points rather than getting an assist each other Gameweek.
This was just the first match, let us not make any kneejerk moves and see how other teams fare. Liverpool and Bournemouth are two attacking teams and therefore DC points are easier to accumulate. We will need to see how these contributions work against teams that play/face possession style teams and low blocks.
