Eberechi Eze Inhaler Mystery: Fans Question if Crystal Palace Midfielder Has Asthma

Eberechi Eze, Football Culture

27-year-old English footballer Eberechi Eze is a dynamic attacking midfielder who is currently a part of Crystal Palace. Known for his flair, dribbling ability, and eye for goal, Eze has quickly become one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents, acquiring huge interest in the transfer market. Fans admire his creativity, close control, and confidence on the ball, making him a player capable of turning games in an instant.

On Sunday, August 17, Eberechi Eze was a part of Crystal Palace’s season opener in the Premier League against Club World Cup champions Chelsea, which ended in a 0-0 draw. In the first half, he scored a banger free kick, which eventually got ruled out by the VAR considering Marc Guehi’s foul inside the box against Chelsea defenders.

Before the start of the match, cameras caught Eberechi Eze using an inhaler on the sidelines, which quickly sparked conversation among fans.

While no official statement has been made about him having asthma, it’s not uncommon for professional footballers to use inhalers before games. They can help clear the airways, improve breathing efficiency, and manage conditions like exercise-induced breathlessness, which are fairly common in high-intensity sports. No official source has confirmed anything about his disease or problem.

Eze has been spotted more than once using an inhaler before stepping onto the pitch, with notable instances coming during Crystal Palace’s match against Nottingham Forest in 2024 and again more recently.

Many players have also been spotted doing the same in the past, so it may be more like a part of his pre-match routine to make sure he is fully ready for the fast pace and physical demands of the game.

On X, fans reacted to the photo in a very contradictory manner from supporting him to bashing him for the action.

“looking locked in, palace gonna need him sharp today” stated @0xgoryu.

@jossy_sneh wrote, “His asthmatic and still cooking?”.

“Pretty sure it just opens up airways. Doesn’t have to be asthma.” said @RWandBlue_CFC in support of the attacking midfielder.

If we look at Eberechi Eze’s style of play and overall performances, it’s clear that he shows no signs of struggling with asthma or any other breathing-related issue. He uses sharp pace, quick turns, and acceleration while playing football, which would be difficult to maintain with a chronic breathing condition.
