Former Liverpool Midfielder Gini Wijnaldum Looks Unrecognizable Now

Georginio Wijnaldum, Liverpool

Throughout history, the Netherlands has produced many of the greatest European footballers who have ever existed and who are remembered today. The most memorable are always Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, and Ruud Gullit, and then we have others like Robin van Persie, Edwin van der Sar, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Arjen Robben. All of them were players who marked a before and after in football, of course, but there have also been many others Dutch footballers who, despite not having the same success as those already mentioned, the hard work they have put in at their respective clubs has earned us enormous appreciation and fond memories.

One of them is Georginio Wijnaldum, current midfielder for Al-Ettifaq. He has had a career in Europe that is not as great as those mentioned above, but it has been really good and he has cultivated a huge fan base thanks to his time as a Liverpool FC player. At Liverpool FC, he would take on a more defensive role than before, but one that would make him one of the club’s most important members during his time there.

With them, they won the UEFA Champions League in 2019, as well as the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and then the Premier League, which they had not won for 30 years. His playing style changed, but for the better. But something that has also changed is his appearance. Currently, Wijnaldum has much longer hair than he had in his earlier years, along with a stubbly beard, which recently went viral online because football fans couldn’t believe the difference.

Now, Wijnaldum sports a curly and voluminous hair and a thick beard. It’s hard to see him like this because we’re not really used to seeing Wijnaldum with this style of appearance, and he looks very sloppy.

Previously, Wijnaldum had rather short hair, and as for his beard, he was sometimes completely shaved or in some cases, with a morning beard but well-groomed. Regarding a preview against Newcastle, which Liverpool ultimately won, they showed an older picture of Wijnaldum during his playing days there. People can see that he had a much more clear-cut appearance, which was his signature look for many years at top-level football.

There are those who have taken the image of the current Wijnaldum with quite a bit of humor and have commented that the Dutchman has remained faithful to his Liverpool barber, which is obviously meant to be ironic.

Another one says the Dutchman is challenging himself not to cut his hair until Manchester United wins 5 games in a row.

And there’s another one that adds a bit darker humor to the topic and says in Spanish, “It seems like he’s been kidnapped in Arabia for three years.”

His appearance may have changed drastically, but Wijnaldum remains the same midfielder who helped change Liverpool FC’s history during the 2010s. Wijnaldum is considered a legend for the English team and is still remembered fondly. He is currently enjoying a good stint with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, where he is the captain and one of the team’s most important players, alongside French striker Moussa Dembélé.
