What Song Plays When Barcelona Scores at the New Camp Nou?

Barcelona, Camp Nou, Football Culture

The stadium atmosphere is an integral part of football experience – the fans, the crowd, the chants, the anthems, everything is important when you’re watching a live football match. A great way of adding excitement to the atmosphere is by playing certain songs or tunes.

For instance, Bayern Munich play Can Can Music by Offenbach. In English football, “Freed From Desire” by GALA is a popular tune that can be heard in stadiums across the country. Similarly, Real Madrid plays their anthem “Hala Madrid” after the team scores a goal.

But what about FC Barcelona?

After more than 900 days, FC Barcelona is back at the iconic Camp Nou, and they’ve spared no expense, adding special LED lighting throughout the stadium, pyrotechnics, a new ramp, modern infrastructure, and even a new song that will be played anytime the team scores a goal.

For the past few years, FC Barcelona had been having a lot of financial trouble. Excessive spending on transfers, sky-high wages, and irresponsible financial deals were preventing Barcelona from making signings or even registering players to their squad.

However, it all changed once the Catalan club signed a deal with Spotify in 2022. Under the terms of the new €75mil deal, not only did Spotify become Barca’s primary jersey sponsor, but the club also signed an additional €20mil deal for the naming rights of the stadium as Camp Nou became Spotify Camp Nou.

Since then, Barcelona’s financial burden has eased up, and the club has been linking up with mainstream artists like Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, and more for collabs and exclusive club merch. The Catalan club was also able to rebuild its iconic stadium, giving it various modern twist and adding amenities that will help generate more revenue in the future.

Upon the reopening of Spotify Camp Nou, the song chosen to be played after Barcelona scores a goal at the new and modern stadium is Volcans by Buhos, specifically the tune from 1:05 onwards.

Buhos is an extremely popular rock group in Catalonia, Spain. Founded in 2007, the group gained popularity after they released a series of songs about FC Barcelona, recording for radio stations Ona FM and RAC 1.

The group had strong ties to Barca, musically celebrating titles won by the Catalan club, accompanied by then-manager Pep Guardiola in Plaça de Catalunya and in Barcelona’s Arc de Triomf.

They have also released numerous songs dedicated to Barca players, including several songs on Lionel Messi, such as Messi, Numero 1, and more.

In 2018, the group released La gran vida (Living It Up), an album that featured more of a rock style and more demanding lyrics. The lead track from the album, “Volcans”, was so popular that it was voted as the 2018 Song of the Year by the readers of Enderrock (a Catalan magazine).

Now, FC Barcelona has chosen the hit track Volcans as the song that will be played after the Catalan club scores a goal at Spotify Camp Nou. The new song was unveiled by Robert Lewandowski, who scored the first goal in the new, reconstructed stadium in the 4th minute and it was played three more times as Fermin Lopez scored the second before Ferran Torres bagged a brace.

In the past, when Spotify Camp Nou was still undergoing construction, and Barcelona was playing at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, they would play L’escut al pit by Mon DJ anytime the home team scored.

Barcelona inaugurated their new stadium and the new song with a resounding 4-0 win against Athletic Club, closing the gap at the top of the table to just 1 point behind league leaders Real Madrid.
