Hummel Football Kit Inspired by a 200 Year Old Lighthouse Is Already the Best of 2026

Portland Hearts of Pine are a soccer club based of the city Portland, Maine, United States of America. They compete in the USL league one competition, the third tier of American Soccer Pyramid.

Found in September 2023, the club made their league debut in March 2025. In 30 games this season, with 11 wins and 7 draws, the club sit at 7th position in the League One table.

The recent sensation around their team is that they have dropped a banger of a kit on the day of new year.

Designed by Hummel, the club paid homage to their state, Maine, with the kit colours being inspired from the colours of Maine’s iconic landmark, USA’s easternmost point, West Quoddy Lighthouse.

The kit features red and white stripes, horizontally, just like the Lighthouse walls.

Built in 1808, with the inclusion of tower in 1858, the Lighthouse is a long standing testament state of Maine’s Maritime history and is a nationally recognized historic place. The initial purpose of the lighthouse was to guide ships along the Quoddy narrows.

The jersey is also a partial replication of the “Where is Waldo” kit donned by the US National Soccer team in 2012.

The Waldo Connection with the kit comes from the famous puzzle book series “Where’s Waldo”, where the protagonist Waldo wears a red and white horizontally striped t-shirt. Interestingly, the state of Maine, consists a county named “Waldo”.

The photoshoot for the official jersey release was done with the services from Landon Donovan, arguably the greatest soccer player for USA.

He utters the three word motto in their release video “Soccer’s Comin Home”, a variant of the “Football’s Coming Home” chant by the English fans, as USA are one of the co-hosts of FIFA world Cup 2026.

Hearts fans are already behind their club for the design and are awaiting to be in the stands wearing the jersey.
