Blackburn Rovers’s Todd Cantwell could not feel much worse than the loss against Wrexham on New Year’s day but little did he know that he would be under scrutiny for something considered not a tradition of the game.
Blackburn Rovers season is on hanging on a wire as they languish in the bottom half of the Championship table at 20th position. Their captain, Cantwell has not had a great season either scoring 4 goals and assisting one in 15 games this season. Although, he suffered an injury mid-way in the season, since his return, he has just one goal to his name and already got his 6th yellow card for the season before 25 matchdays.
On Thursday, the club played with their 150th year anniversary Commemorative kit by Macron in their game against Wrexham.
Todd Cantwell who has a habit of playing wearing his gloves, had his jersey number printed on his gloves. Already in disappointment of his performances, the fans could not accept this fanciness and called it out as something alienated to the tradition of the game. People vented out their anger on Cantwell over his gear choice.

But a clarification was made by a fan that it was not Cantwell’s fault but a part of the retro kit design of Blackburn Rovers, which would eventually be sold as a merchandise.
Further, photos from the past where the jersey numbers are visible on their socks, were shared to prove that in the older days, jersey numbers on other gears were a common occurrence.
Todd Cantwell as his name suggests, is not able to do well, anything to improve his and the team’s situation but the hatred he gets from the fans beyond his performances is nothing short of overhate. What do you think of the numbered gloves and whether Cantwell needs to be hated for it?
