Groundhopping is a hobby where you attend sports matches at as many different grounds or stadiums as possible.
Started in the 1970s, this popular pastime involves attending matches on different grounds, from the stadiums to the tiny arenas, and experiencing the culture, diverse atmosphere, and local football. In the UK, footy fans have as many as 92 football league stadiums to check off their list.
Something that one Braintree Town fan and renowned groundhopper by the name of Daniel Turner has already done.

However, he met unexpected circumstances where he was unsure whether or not his latest groundhopping trip counted or not.
Daniel was attending the Dial Square F.C. vs CB Hounslow & Abbots match in the Surrey Premier County Football League.
As the game was 3-0, the visiting Dial Square F.C. complained about the condition of the pitch. Due to the frozen 3G pitch making it dangerous for players to play, the game was halted at half-time and postponed to a later date.
This caused a panic in the Groundhopping community as they stated a revisit will be required to count this match, while Daniel claimed that he will count it in his checklist as he was present for the entirety of the game that was played.
Unfortunately the game has been abandoned at 3-0 at halftime. Due to a frozen 3G pitch. Away team cried wolf to the officials as they were losing.

Still counting it as I’ve seen all of the game that was played. pic.twitter.com/i9mDm8jSZW
Daniel Turner, who has already completed the 92 out of 92 stadiums visited in the English Football checklist, is now attempting to visit as many stadiums as possible in non-league football as well.
He is currently on 1062 grounds visited across England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, France, Belgium, Norway, Italy, Austria, Romania, Sweden, Finland, and Gibraltar.
However, the latest visit has the whole Groundhopping community in uproar, and the Braintree Town fan in denial.
As the match is set to be played at a later date, technically, Daniel’s visit will only count if he attends the match that happens eventually.
The groundhopper was unable to process this rule, as he suffered a head loss and was arguing with people in the comments section. At one point, he was even seen having a full-blown debate with AI, trying to convince everyone, including the AI that the match should count.

Many groundhopping fans who are in it for the experience didn’t take kindly to Daniel Turner’s behavior, claiming that he’s a fraud and only doing it for the numbers.
❌ tick denied. Any milestone he achieves from here on out will have an asterisk next to it. https://t.co/uBFDGE0CcF

Daniel isn’t doing his tally any favor either, exposing how he has previously counted games that were called off mid-way and even mentioning how he once counted the Dorking Wanderers FC vs Tonbridge Angels Football Club in 2020-21 because “my hands were inside the fence.”
According to Wikipedia, there is an unwritten rule that states that “a groundhopper must have seen a full football match at the ground.”
Unless Daniel returns to watch the entire match whenever it is played, his trip will not count towards his record, given that only 45 minutes were played.
Additionally, he also needs to improve his mentality towards groundhopping as he’s straying away from the essence of why groundhopping was started in the first place. Instead of doing it to add to his tally, he should be doing it for the experience and enjoyment.
