Liverpool And Wolves Join Forces To Honour Diogo Jota At Molineux

Diogo Jota, Liverpool, Premier League, Rob Edwards, Wolves

Molineux fell silent before erupting in applause as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool came together to honour the memory of Diogo Jota in the first meeting between the clubs at the ground since his tragic death last July.

Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva were killed in a car accident in northern Spain in the summer of 2025.

In the 18th minute, the number Jota wore during his time at Wolves, the stadium rose as one for a prolonged round of applause.

Liverpool supporters joined in the gesture before singing a tribute to their former forward in the 20th minute, reflecting the shirt number he wore at Anfield.

Wolves manager Rob Edwards paused to applaud while the match was still in progress.

Sky Sports’ Adam Bate noted from Molineux: “The minutes of the tributes to Diogo Jota are prolonged here because he wore the No. 18 shirt for Wolves and the No. 20 shirt for Liverpool. Applause rings out, Edwards joining in.”

Banners filled both ends of the ground. The Wolves faithful unveiled a tribute displaying images of Jota in Old Gold, bearing the message “Out of darkness cometh light.”

Liverpool fans responded with their own, reading “Obrigado Diogo, forever our number 20.”

A player loved by two clubs, remembered by both.

@HJE_BoxingWWFC — Just an observation. Both on the 18th and 20th minute celebrations for our beloved Diogo Jota; Rob Edwards clapped throughout, paid his respects and continued managing the game whilst doing. Less could be said for that arrogant, stroppy baldie opposite him! #wwfc #WOLLIV #LIV
