Ryan Reynolds And Rob McElhenney To Call Wrexham vs Swansea In Historic Sky Sports First

Championship, Sky Sports, Swansea City, Wrexham

Sky Sports has teamed up with Wrexham owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds to provide live commentary for the Wrexham vs Swansea City EFL Championship fixture on Friday 13 March.

Aptly titled Live from Wrexham with Rob & Ryan, this segment will be available alongside the main Wrexham vs Swansea match coverage featuring Daniel Mann and Andy Hinchcliffe from 7pm on Sky Sports Football.

Live from Wrexham with Rob & Ryan will be hosted by David Prutton along with a host of high-profile guests joining the coverage throughout the match.

Wrexham are currently sixth in the Championship and on course for the play-offs— making this Welsh Derby against Swansea (16th) even more high-stakes.

What Rob & Ryan Said

“As with our decision to take over Wrexham five years ago, we genuinely have no idea how this is going to go, but we will give it our best. Neither of us have called a sporting event of any variety, let alone a sport we basically learned the rules of five years ago,” the pair said.

They also promised it would be unfiltered, adding: “Either way, it will be another unpredictable day at the Racecourse and we can’t wait. We’re grateful to our partners at the EFL and Sky Sports, the latter of which we hope is ready with the bleep button.”

On social media, Reynolds joked there would be “two slightly biased commentators” on duty, and revealed he and McElhenney had been “preparing” for the gig by exchanging 90-minute voice notes with each other.

Sky Sports presenter David Prutton said: “Rob and Ryan have done an incredible job at Wrexham, and they have really bought into what makes football and the EFL so special. We’re looking forward to welcoming the guys into our coverage, bringing a unique and entertaining experience for fans and offering something we’ve not seen before.”

Club CEO Michael Williamson said the commentary idea is fully in keeping with the ownership’s approach. He explained: “From the very beginning of Rob and Ryan’s ownership, we have strived as a club to do things differently. The first-ever Live from Wrexham with Rob & Ryan allows Wrexham fans globally yet another unique way of following our match with Swansea in a world where sport and entertainment collide.”

Fans react to the news of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds providing live commentary for the Wrexham vs Swansea City on Sky Sports –

@aldershot4ever So are swansea owners involved in this as well ?

@SCFCDan_ The wankfest for Wrexham has already begun at Sky Sports HQ. No wonder people have fire sticks

@OsirisRage Do you or they think anybody outside of the tiny Wrexham community wants this or cares for this in any way shape or form?

@_fod0 Funny that when Chelsea, Man City and Newcastle got mega rich owners it’s “they’re ruining the game” but when it’s Wrexham, it’s treated like some sort of fairy tale.

@aeroplanejacko How to enhance the Swansea fanbase for just 90 minutes
This is pathetic beyond belief

@MikeTur88 Will there be a red button option to listen to Snoop Dogg?

@mar_boro14 Will Steve Gibson be in comms for the next Boro game? Seriously this is bias as hell with no real consideration for the Swansea fans who’ll just be tuning in to The nonsensical Wrexham Show.

It’s a terrible idea regardless of clubs, but it’s clear Sky are just pandering to them

@rob_main Might even seek a dodgy stream for this one!

@waynefawcett Did anyone even ask for this 🤦🏻‍♂️

@kevhpne Come on Swansea. We are all behind you in this one.

@TerrierTogether no thanks, couldnt imagine anything worse!

@tomkir12 And you wonder why people aren’t paying for sky anymore🤣🤣🤣

@atothebto All the haters this could actually be entertaining

@fearlessidzine The fume elsewhere on this is wonderful. So many oblivious to the fact that R&R is an alternative commentary option to the usual one. More eyes and ears from around the globe listening to people they might be able to relate to than dye in the wool so-called football experts. The mood hoovers will be asking for the return of Gray & Keys next.

@Adam_PVFC Sound wasn’t gonna watch and will definitely not watch now👍🏻

@Davetheblade58 Will you be able to monitor viewing figures?
I hope so because you’ll realise that most football fans around the country think this is dreadful and will switch off

@BellsyNUFC For the first time ever, Come on Swansea

@C0n_TwT disband the entire operation, sky. Football doesnt need you, you are a stain on our game
