The 25/26 season was one that Chelsea fans were definitely looking forward to. An underdog run to go on and win the Club World Cup against Champions League winners PSG. The success reignited the belief of the fans, and the expectations were high.
The season, however, has not gone to plan. Poor performances in November saw Chelsea sack the manager Enzo Maresca, much to the dismay of the fans. The next man in charge? Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior.
The season currently sees Chelsea sit 6th in the Premier League table, 6 points behind the Champions League spots. They were also knocked out in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. However, the worst defeat of all came in the round-of-16 tie against Club World Cup rivals PSG. The French club humiliated them in an 8-2 defeat on aggregate and knocked them out of the competition.
All things considered, it is no surprise that many fans will now be looking forward to the next season and wondering what’s next.
Well, we already have a glimpse of Chelsea’s new home kit for the 26/27 season, which was leaked.
The Jersey features a bright blue background with gold highlights around the shirt and on the logo and crest.
The most important feature, however, is the subtle tonal pattern of the crest at the centre of the jersey.
The jersey makes history by being the first one to feature just the famous lion and not the modern crest.
The design process was noteworthy too, as Nike shifted from an American-based designer to one based in London. The main reason is that the home kits from previous seasons, especially the last 2 seasons, had attracted major backlash from fans.
Many fans did like the kit, and Twitter fan Estevaoera went so far as to edit Chelsea’s own starboy Estevao in the kit for next season.
Estevao himself has been an absolue revelation for Chelsea ever since his move from Palmeiras for a deal worth 34 Million Euros. The winger has had his breakout season this year as he has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists across all competitions. The most notable goal of course came against Liverpool in the premier league where a goal from him in the 96th minute saw the blues win the game.
Chelsea fans will hope that the new kit and Estevao brings better results next season as well. For now, their next challenge will be against Manchester City at their home in the Premier League on 12th April.
