‘It’s Not The World Cup Final’—Fans Defend GK Barry After Soccer Aid Backlash

GK Barry, Soccer Aid 2026

Soccer Aid has long been a tradition of legends playing football to raise money for UNICEF UK through ticket sales and money donations. With celebrities and legends alike, such as Gordon Ramsay, Diego Maradona, and James McAvoy, coming together for the greater cause of helping the world through the game they play.

Most fans refer to it as the most sacred game, which takes place once throughout the year and brings people together for a cause of humanity.

In 2026, players like Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and celebrities like Damson Idris and Tom Hiddleston came together for the cause yet there was one celebrity who managed to be the most talked about aspect of the game.

In March 2026, it was announced that Grace Eleanor Keeling would be a part of the England Squad as one of the celebrities and would take part in Soccer Aid 2026.

Fans knew her presence was going to be nothing short of a controversial one and well, they were right.

Replacing Tom Hiddleston and coming on at the 41st minute of the game, she quickly received the ball moments after she stepped onto the pitch and proceeded to pass it to her teammate Tom Grennan, and this is where the controversial moment took place.

The moment Grace passed the ball, she turned towards the audience to celebrate, and had inadvertently missed the return pass by Grennan.

This made Grennan visibly frustrated on Grace, and fans could see him saying things to her in a fit of annoyance towards her missing his simple pass, and he was pointing towards the outside line where the ball had gone.

The whole moment quickly garnered widespread attention on social media, with fans having varying reactions.

The majority of the fans took part in trolling Grace for being disrespectful to the game and calling her part of the moment as “embarrasing towards the game” and how even if it is a charity game, everyone is trying their best and the efforts should be respected.

Another fan added how the money raising for the charity happens off the pitch while the pitch is meant purely for the game of football and such celebs should not be disrespecting the game.

But who is Grace Elanor Keeling who has been receiving such backlash?

Grace Eleanor Keeling or GK Barry is an English internet personality from Cambridge in England. Since her breakout in 2020 through her tik tok account named “gkbarry” by posting lifestyle videos, Grace has made rounds on social media due to her evergreen presence on social media.

She has been hosting podcasts titled “Saving Grace” where she interviews celebrities such as Chloe Burrows and has also hosted a tour around UK of the same podcast.

Despite the negative reaction of fans, many of them stood beside Grace, supporting her playful moment.

Fans defended her by saying how it is just a charity match and players should be enjoying themselves while playing and should not treat it as the world cup final.

One fan also added on how her mere presence at the game would have gotten people who would never have watched football watch the game solely due to her and how she would have brought in the numbers for the aid.

Before the match, Grace herself had stated how she had never kicked a ball in her life and had learnt whatever she had to about the game from her footballer girlfriend Ella Rutherford who taught her about it before the match.

Grace acknowledged her poor footballing skills by posting an instagram story as well.

Despite her failing to play the game properly and acknowledging her teammates moves on the pitch, Grace seemed to have enjoyed herself on the pitch and England squad ended up lifting the trophy after winning the game 3-2.

Such moments leave fans divided yet fans don’t see the good coming out of such events such as the huge sum of donation going to UNICEF UK for the event.

Grace seemed to have had fun playing while entertaining the fans at the stadium, all while England won the match. It seems like fans at the stadium have seemed to get their money’s worth.
