Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler’s recent Talksport interview with White & Jordan has become the talk of the Premier League. Hürzeler’s new interview has made the Gunners, in particular, agitated.
The famous British sports radio station Talksport recently invited Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler for an interview following the hammering of Arsenal by Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday, 3-0.
Arsenal fans were completely agitated by the interview’s context because they felt that all the shows and interviews wanted to make content out of Arsenal every single time. They also pointed out that Hürzeler went on a victory media tour just after he defeated Arsenal, and his confident demeanour was too much.
In the interview, Hürzeler discussed his team’s philosophy and what their goals are when they play, and what they focus on to win a match.
“ We focused on us, really. We wanted to win the small battles first; what I mean is, win the first header, win the first tackle, win the first throw-in, win the first corner. It sounds a little bit old school, but it really was our approach because when you win these small battles, then you grow into the game.
Then you can maybe create a bigger chance; then you can create a bigger win of scoring a goal. But first of all, it’s getting into this game, having this commitment to our style of play, to our principles, and then winning the small battles.”
When the host suggested that Brighton played exceptionally well and delivered a perfect performance, Hürzeler replied that, since he is a perfectionist, he does not see it as perfection and that there are still things they need to improve. He expressed that his motive is to make performances like these normal, and that is also his challenge.
“ Was it a perfect game? I’m a perfectionist; I wouldn’t say it was a perfect game. There are still things to improve. But overall, our challenge now will be to make these kind of exceptional performances normal. This is the challenge we have now”
Referring to teams like Arsenal, Hürzeler responded that he sees them as an establishment that he wants to challenge.

Heated conversations took place among Arsenal fans after the interview. The comment section of Jim White, the anchor of the talk show’s official X account, has been flooded with comments from fans throwing shade at Hürzeler for going on interviews and explaining team tactics after beating Arsenal, the current champions, for the first time.
The Gunners were unhappy with the fact that Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, secured their first Premier League title in 22 years, and he was not called for an interview or a podcast, but one won against Arsenal by Brighton deserves a whole hour’s talk. Another question they raise is: when Brighton beat Chelsea, there was no similar interview or content out of it, so why target Arsenal and milk content out of it?
At the same time, there is a different side to this story. Hürzeler is friends with the Talksport team, Jim White and Simon Jordan, and even hosted World Cup games with them this year. He joined their team as an expert pundit for the World Cup coverage, giving live summaries and analysis post-match.
White also said that Hürzeler is close with other crew members of the show. Hence, on the other hand, some fans counter-argue that it is totally normal for them to call Fabian Hürzeler again for a talk show, as it was indeed his victory in the Premier League and he deserves it for his hard work.
Following the discussions, Jim White himself came in defence of Hürzeler and said that the Arsenal fans have got it completely wrong.
He said that they totally wasted their time with the comments because the interview was organised well before the match was played, and Hürzeler is a regular on the show during the summer breaks.
“I noticed that a clip of Fabian talking about how Brighton went about in attempting to beat Arsenal. And they were successful in doing so, winning 3-0, and I noticed there was a pile-on from Arsenal fans saying that Hurzeler was on tour, suggesting he was doing a media tour because they had beaten Arsenal. But just for all of you out there who did jump on that, you totally wasted your time posting these comments because the interview yesterday was organised way before that match was played at the weekend.
So, he was always coming in during this international break, so if Arsenal had won at the weekend, Fabian Hurzeler would have still been sat in that seat.”
Brighton has shown stellar performance this season, with 10 points from the first 5 matches and finished in 3rd position. Arsenal sits 2nd with 12 points.
The Premier League will restart on 10th October, with the first match being Arsenal against Leeds. Brighton has their match against Sunderland on the same day.
