Two-time Ballon d’Or winner and the all-time decorated player of Barcelona FC, Alexia Putellas has had a fresh start in the London City Lionesses, and she has found her groove ahead of the Women’s Super League. It was the 32-year-old who scored LCL’s first in a 2-0 victory over Brighton, and she provided the assist for Isobel Goodwin’s opener in the 4-1 triumph at Charlton.
Exactly like how fans expected from the La Reina, she delivered so far a commendable performance in LCL in the opening weeks of the season after her 14-year career in Barcelona.
Meanwhile, the first look behind-the-scenes photos and shots of certain scenes of the new film inspired by the life of the Barcelona legend have just been released.

Directed by Valencian filmmaker Lucas Alemany and written by Valentina Viso and Daniel González, ‘Alexia‘ is set to premiere in 2027. The movie depicts her life from a little girl in Catalonia to becoming a World Cup winner and the finest footballer to have ever played the game.

The new behind-the-scenes photos and shots from the movie were posted by Lazona, the film’s production company, and also by sports lifestyle magazine Versus on 30th September. While the official release date has not yet been announced, it is said that the movie will be released in the first half of 2027.

Before this film, the Barça legend has also been depicted in popular culture through 2022’s ‘Alexia: Labor Omnia Vincit’ documentary, a release that showcased Putellas’ journey between two Ballon d’Or wins.
The full cast of the movie is yet to be announced, including the actor who will be playing adult Alexia. The filming has commenced in various parts of Spain, including locations in Catalonia and Valencia, especially Mollet del Vallès, her hometown, to depict the childhood and teenage years of the young Putellas.

Actresses Emma Masoliver and Madicken Mauri-Sandake will portray the player as a child and as an adolescent, respectively, showing different phases of her life. Roger Casamajor will take on the role of her father, with Marina Salas cast as her mother.

To ensure the football sequences are authentically correct, Spanish footballer Virginia Torrecilla have also joined the crew.
The filmmakers highlighted in one of their statements that
“ Alexia’s impact reaches far beyond the pitch. Her talent, her achievements and her leadership have helped reshape perceptions of women’s football and paved the way for future generations.”
Football fans are excited to see the biopic of one of the greatest footballers’ life on screen. Especially when she is someone who broke all barriers on the football field.
Alèxia Putellas i Segura is one of the most decorated players in the history of FC Barcelona and Spanish football. She spent 14 years of her career at Barça Femení (2012-2026). Putellas was signed to the team when she was only 18 years old and made appearances in over 500 matches (508 total official appearances) and scored 232 goals.
The Spanish forward made her debut in her youth career through CE Sabadell and from there climbed to Barcelona through various clubs. She won eight league titles, eight Copas de la Reina and three UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies for the club.
She became the first female footballer to win all three individual awards in the same year in 2021 by winning the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award, the Ballon d’Or Féminin, and the Best FIFA Women’s Player.

Despite an ACL injury in 2022 and missing out on the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 and most matches of the Champions League, she still bagged the clean sweep of the three individual awards, making her the first woman to win any of them in consecutive years.
Her comeback in the 2024 Champions League final, when she scored a goal in the 93rd minute against Olympique Lyonnais to seal the victory, was an unforgettable moment for football fans.
Her celebration of taking off her shirt and sprinting in front of the 40,000-strong sea of Barça fans at San Mamés is already one of the most iconic images in the history of Barça. The image gained a lot of media attention, and the “La Reina is back” comments were everywhere.
2025–26 was her last season with Barça, where she still led the team to victory in the Champions League. She played her last match for the Blaugrana on May 27th, 2026, in a Liga F match against Real Sociedad Femenino.

Alexia has always expressed her love for her late father, Jaume Putellas Rota and her commitment to fulfil his dream of her playing for Barcelona. The audience is keen to see the interaction between the two in the film as well.

Currently, she plays for Women’s Super League club London City Lionesses and represents the Spain women’s national team. Her pinnacle of success in football came when she attained 38 official trophies under her name and surpassed Lionel Messi, who has 35, thus making her the single most decorated player in Barcelona history.
From a girl in Catalonia to the feat she achieved through her strong resilience and determination, she serves as the best example of a trailblazer for young girls and others who dare to dream. Fans all over are excited to watch the making of such a legend on the big screen soon.
