Alex Iwobi swaps the pitch for touchline as Baller League manager

Alex Iwobi, Baller League, Fulham

Whether it be for a world class team or a developing club, watching professional players becoming managers is a fascinating aspect as it gives us an insight into how football is played in their minds and how well they can execute it on the pitch.

Alex Iwobi is in a similar territory, as he has now been integrated into the Baller League as a manager.

What is Baller League, people must be wondering?

Started in 2024 by world renowned World Cup winners Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski alongside entrepreneur Felix Starck, Baller league features high paced, intensive 6-a-side football designed to combine traditional football elements, incorporated with high rush entertainment to keep fans engaged constantly.

The game is anything but slow-tempo. It features uniquely unpredictable rules and condensed fields to generate tempo non-stop, resulting in a large amount of goals which are nothing less than fancy.

After it’s initial launch in Germany, following it’s success, it has now been expanded to USA and UK majorly, which is where Alex Iwobi comes in.

The matches are streamed live on Twitch and Youtube, mainly for the younger global audience to connect with Football in a modern way.

The Fulham midfielder has now joined Baller League as a manager for one of it’s flagship teams, the P17 named after his signature shirt, 17, almost as if it is a meant to be moment for Iwobi.

This is not the first off-pitch venture for Alex. He has played around with this interests in music, releasing singles like “Don’t shoot” and “What’s Luv” which are seen as a creative release for the midfielder rather than off-pitch distractions, by both fans and manager alike.

Fans started wondering if Alex was an exception to rules as he was making music, an activity not commonly noticed in footballers, but it’s simpler than people think.

A standard Premier League contract allows 4-5 hours of freedom to players to pursue anything they like such as fitness related activities, or in this case, music yet prevents them from pursuing activities like skiing which may cause harm to the player and diminish their skills on the pitch.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has praised Alex’s off pitch musical activity stating as long as it does not hinder with this ball playing abilities, he’s free to pursue anything he likes and supports his vision.

The 30 year old will oversee the team’s drafts, tactical direction as well as managing the team from the sidelines.

Iwobi is known for his flair filled football on the field for Fulham and the Nigerian National Football Team, making him a credible and seemingly the right figure for this kind of a job. Iwobi’s managerial stint is sure to invite viewers due to his life-filled personality and his constant presence around pop culture.

Iwobi represents the perfect bridge between Professional football and the Baller League, who are looking to expand upon the idea of a more casual yet fun filled football for the audience who are looking to have a bit of a fun rather than be stressed while watching their favourite teams get demolished on the field.

Baller League already holds a roster of personalities like KSI, Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Chloe Kelly and also Idris Elba which makes the league all the more exciting to watch, not just for football fans.
