In the last few seasons, Bayern Munich has been absolutely pinpoint with their decisions in the transfer window. Whether it’s landing Harry Kane or making moves for Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, the German club hasn’t hesitated to take the aggressive route for the players on their watchlist.
Being a European powerhouse with an estimated valuation of 5.7B Euros as per Forbes, the club also has the financial pull to lock these players and land them at the Allianz. Thus, when the clubs around the world were on high after the Premier League pressed 115 charges on Manchester City, many imagined that Bayern would be one of the clubs to poach top players like Erling Haaland.
Equipped with prior Bundesliga experience, Haaland’s move to Bayern can be a transfer move for the ages. However, as per a report from Sports Bild’s Christian Falk, the Norwegian Viking is not in the plans for Bayern. In a recent interview, Bayern President Herbert Hainer reiterated the same sentiment as well around this move.
“We have an excellent attack with Michael Olise, Harry Kane and Luis Díaz. We scored more than 100 goals last year and are extremely well equipped up front,” he said, as per Bild TV. “If we’re talking about a point several years from now, we would look at the situation again.”
While the scenario might sound interesting with Kane and Haaland pairing up up front, it is far from reality. It needs to be understood that signing Haaland to a team also has its financial baggage. As per TopSkills Sports UK, the Norwegian striker’s annual salary is 35M Euros, which is far more than the 25M Euros that Kane is slated to earn annually with his new deal, as per Bavarian Football Works.
This huge salary already makes the Haaland move practically impossible for Bayern Munich. Even from a tactical and strategic perspective, signing Haaland doesn’t make any sense for Bayern, considering they already have a striker like Kane who scored 61 goals last season with ease and is also ready to sign a new contract until 2029.
Notably, reports have surfaced that the German club is instead eyeing a move for Barcelona forward Dani Olmo rather than Haaland, as per Spanish newspaper Sport. According to the sources, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern see Olmo as a perfect replacement if the club loses players like Jamal Musiala or Michael Olise.
Similar to Haaland, Olmo has prior experience playing in the Bundesliga. Furthermore, Olmo’s versatility to play on the wing as well as a creative false nine makes him a perfect fit for the German club to boost their attack in the final third. In his time with FC Barcelona so far, the Spanish player has delivered whenever given a chance, scoring 8 goals and recording 10 assists last season.
While Barca hasn’t pushed for Olmo’s sell directly so far, Fichajes reports that the Spanish club might consider a offer in the proximity of 80M Euros. For now, there haven’t been any discussions between the front offices of the clubs. However, we can expect to see more movements around this deal as the January transfer window approaches.
