Harry Wilson and Dan James Out? Leeds Scout Sporting CP Winger to Upgrade Farke’s Frontline

Leeds United

Leeds United’s strong start to the 2026-27 campaign puts them in contention for European competitions next season. After losing only one of their opening eight league games, the Whites now look to further boost their position with a quality addition to their attack.

With the January transfer window approaching fast, Leeds United are linked with Geny Catamo. According to Sky Sports, Leeds have been monitoring the Sporting CP winger for the last few days and recently sent their scouts to the player.

The West Yorkshire outfit’s interest in Catamo comes after the player’s impressive performances this season. The 25-year-old Mozambican has scored once and produced four assists in eight league starts so far, attracting the interest from Leeds and several other Premier League outfits.

Since joining the Portuguese giants in 2019, Catamo has been a regular starter in Lisbon with over 150 appearances across all competitions. He signed a new contract in February this year, extending his stay in Portugal until June 2029. The player has a £50 million release clause in his new contract, but it has not thwarted interest from English clubs.

Meanwhile, Leeds’ interest in Geny Catamo is understandable, as they struggle to find creativity in the final third. Summer signing Harry Wilson has struggled to impress manager Daniel Farke with just two league starts. His fellow Welsh winger Daniel James has made three league appearances from the bench and seems surplus to requirements at Elland Road.

Leeds’ other attacking midfield options, Brenden Aaronson and Lukas Nmecha, are yet to score a goal this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has already scored four league goals this season, is linked with a potential exit in January, giving Leeds more reasons to consider a serious approach for Catamo.

However, Leeds United are facing tough competition from their fellow Premier League rivals in their pursuit of Catamo. Sunderland, who reportedly made several attempts to sign Catamo last summer, have reportedly revived their interest in the right-winger ahead of the January transfer window.

Newcastle United, Everton and Bournemouth are also keeping tabs on the in-demand winger, who has, as per fussball-news.de, additionally drawn interest from the North London side Tottenham Hotspur and Italian giants AC Milan. The Spurs have the financial means to outbid the competition should they consider a serious bid in January, while the Rossoneri manager Ruben Amorim is understood to have a strong connection with the player and Sporting from his coaching days in Lisbon.
