Chelsea and Liverpool Circle Alex Scott, but Bournemouth Already Have a Plan B

AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth had a spectacular season last term under manager Andoni Iraola, securing European football, but he left for Liverpool this campaign, and Marco Rose took over from him at the Vitality Stadium.

In the current campaign, the Cherries have struggled to showcase their best football in the Premier League, have secured just two wins in eight matches, and have already racked up three defeats in the league.

Things could even get complicated for Bournemouth after the injury to star midfielder Alex Scott, who suffered a thigh muscle injury during England’s Nations League encounter against Croatia and will be out for several weeks.

Alex Scott’s stock rose during the summer transfer window, with several clubs across Europe fighting for his signature, but Bournemouth were able to keep hold of him, as he is a key member of the first-team.

However, things could change in the upcoming transfer window, as Bournemouth could sell Scott in January for the right price, and Chelsea and Liverpool remain interested in signing the England international to bolster their midfield.

In the event Scott leaves during the winter transfer window, manager Marco Rose will want to bring in reinforcements in January to stay competitive in the Premier League and also make a deep run in the UEFA Europa League this season.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Bournemouth are keeping tabs on AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit over a potential move in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Interest from the Premier League is nothing new for Kees Smit; last summer, Newcastle United showed interest in him but ultimately signed Sean Steur from Ajax.

This term, the 20-year-old midfielder has made seven appearances in all competitions, and chipped in with two assists in the process, but currently he is recovering from a groin injury.

Currently, Bournemouth have Tyler Adams, Lewis Cook, and Ryan Christie at their disposal to play in the middle of the park, while Alex Scott and Alex Toth have been sidelined due to an injury.

During a press conference, boss Marco Rose provided an update on Scott’s potential return, and also revealed that he is back on the pitch and could be training with the first-team in a couple of days.

Marco Rose was quoted as saying by Sports Mole: “In more or less one week, we have an international break, then we have two weeks more to get him really fit.

But he is on the pitch, he works hard. He has no problems. He has not trained with the team so far but I’m quite sure he is going to do it in the next couple of days.

Then we are going to see, is it worth it to bring him to the squad before the international break? Or after the international break to be maybe more reasonable.”

Despite the absence of Alex Scott, Bournemouth have secured some crucial victories in all competitions and are on a five-game winning streak at the moment, with victories over Sunderland and Manchester United in the Premier League.

Besides that, in the Europa League, Bournemouth trashed Italian giants AC Milan, while in the EFL Cup, they knocked out fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.

Up Next, Bournemouth are due to lock horns with Leeds United, who will want to get back to winning ways after back-to-back draws in the Premier League.
