Liverpool’s recent campaigns continue to display their approach to building a squad capable of dominating both the present and the future. Under Andoni Iraola, the approach has been further signified by the recruitment strategy of identifying some of the world’s most exciting talents before their value explodes.
That approach is clearly visible this season, with Iraola’s willingness to hand regular opportunities to youngsters Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha, both of whom have developed into hot prospects. Now, to further their efforts in identifying the future, Liverpool have linked with a young midfielder from Germany.
According to a Spanish news outlet, El Nacional, Liverpool have joined the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Wael Mohya. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder is regarded as one of the brightest young talents emerging in the Bundesliga. He has already scored three goals and produced an assist in five starts across competitions, which has triggered interest from the top European clubs.

Mohya joined Monchengladbach’s youth academy at the age of 11 and was promoted to the senior team in 2025. He made his professional debut in October 2025, and first made the headlines after scoring a goal against Bayern Munich in March this season. Since then, the youngster has shown great potential and has developed into a regular starter this season.
Liverpool’s interest comes amidst the player’s performance against Stuttgart last week. Mohya scored one and assisted another to give Monchengladbach their first league win of the season.
According to the aforementioned report, the German club, which is currently placed at the bottom of the Bundesliga points table, is considering selling Wael Mohya in the next summer transfer window. However, Monchengladbach are well aware of the interest in the attacking midfielder and are reportedly demanding a fee in the region of £30 million.
While the figure represents a massive investment for a player who is yet to turn 18, Liverpool have demonstrated their willingness to spend heavily on the youngsters. Earlier this season, they secured the 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk for a reported sum of £28 million and before that, spent £26 million and add-ons to sign the Italian defender Giovanni Leoni.
However, the 20-time English champions are facing tough competition for Mohya’s signature. The Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on the player, who is tipped to be the next gem in German football. Mohya has also attracted interest from the Spanish sides Real Madrid and Barcelona, and other European giants PSG and AC Milan.
Liverpool hierarchy has recently shown their determination to secure young prospects before their rivals outbid them. Mohya could be a valuable addition to Iraola’s young setup at Anfield and contribute to the club’s future. Liverpool have already shown that they are not afraid to give youngsters the opportunities they need to develop, and that could play a big role when the German prodigy considers his options.
