Manchester United need serious reinforcements. The club is facing a severe crisis right now. Unless they make massive improvements, the Red Devils are on the brink of a humiliating relegation to the EFL Championship. They’ve already been eliminated from the EFL Cup in the third round itself. Team manager Michael Carrick knows that if he wants to stay, he needs to deliver quick results. This is why he is working with the management to recruit a new goalkeeper ahead of the January transfer window.
Recent reports indicate that the Red Devils are monitoring the performance of goalkeeper Dennis Seimen, who plays for VfB Stuttgart. Transfer expert Ekrem Konur revealed it in his latest post on his X account.
The 20-year-old returned to the club after a brief loan spell at SC Paderborn 07 in the 2025-26 season. Seimen joined the club in 2015 as part of the youth academy. He was first promoted to the reserve team in 2023, and subsequently to the club’s main team.
Interestingly, the Red Devils aren’t the only team interested in the young goalkeeper. Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are also keeping a close watch on the German’s performance. However, Man United are hopeful of making a solid deal with Stuttgart by the end of the year.
However, the question remains: why is Manchester United desperately in need of a goalkeeper? The Red Devils have parted ways with Radek Vitek and Altay Bayindir ahead of the 2026-27 season. Their replacements, Karl Darlow and Senne Lammens, haven’t been exactly useful in the current season. Even Andre Onana is out on a loan spell to Trabzonspor.
This is the reason why the Red Devils want a young, agile goalkeeper who can reduce the workload and bring stability to the goalkeeping department. As a left-footed goalkeeper, Seimen seems to fit the bill for them. He is not only well-composed in nature, but also fits the mould of a modern sweeper-keeper.
But will Stuttgart let Seimen go? It’s not easy as it seems to be. If push comes to shove, the German club has set an asking price of at least €30 million for the player. Besides, the German keeper has a contract with Stuttgart that will expire in June 2029. This puts the German club in a strong position in terms of negotiations. Although no official statement has been made, VfB Stuttgart have made it clear that Seimen will not be available for transfer until the end of the 2026-27 season.
The Red Devils have just managed to scrape through with a victory against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League. However, head coach Michael Carrick knows that’s not enough. Manchester United needs to bounce back in style, and for that they need stronger, tactically sharp players. If they manage to convince Seimen to join the club, he could help the goalkeepers, as well as create a new line of defense. However, given that Stuttgart won’t let him out until the end of the current season, it remains to be seen if the Red Devils have a suitable offer in mind.
