Red Devil for life – Robin van Persie rocks up in Manchester United shin pads at Kompany’s testimonial

Since 2010 few players have managed to attain the legendary status Robin van Persie holds at Old Trafford during his 3-year stint with the club.

The ‘flying’ Dutchman had cited a desire to win silverware as the reason for leaving Arsenal for the Red Devils in 2012 and after a fairytale season Van Persie ended the year with a Premier League winners medal as well as England’s golden boot.

After Fergie’s retirement in 2013 however the fairytale ended for him with the striker suffering from a big dip in form and ultimately left the club rather unceremoniously after Louis Van Gaal’s first season in charge.

But despite his struggles in Manchester during his final two season there, United fans seemed convinced that the Dutchman still holds the club dear after noticing something special about his shin pads during Vincent Kompany’s testimonial.

The 36-year-old was one of several greats who turned up for the City legend’s testimonial and the striker’s decision to sport club merchandise has scored some major points with the United supporters on Twitter.
