Many teams possess a defender who can pack a punch from a free-kick. Roberto Carlos, David Alaba and David Luiz are a few of the prominent names that come to mind while talking about defenders who are also free-kick specialists.

As for French side AS Monaco, their man in the contention is the right-back Djibril Sidibé. The France international has taken up the free-kick responsibilities for the team since the start of the new season.

Sidibe has mustered two goals from dead-ball situations throughout his career. The first was during his time in Lille when he scored a crucial free-kick goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de la Ligue final in 2016. His second came against Lille with his current side Monaco.

However, for all his experience from dead-ball situations, Sidibé had a moment to forget in last night’s Ligue 1 clash against Rennes. From a relatively promising free-kick position, the Frenchman lined up to take a shot in the 72nd minute.

The result was one of the worst free-kicks in the history of the game. The defender absolutely skied the ball and sent it over the moon as the Rennes faithful standing behind the goal burst into laughter.
