Ilaix Moriba draws comparisons with Paul Pogba after Osasuna display

Ilaix Moriba has been one of the many Barcelona youngsters to have got their first big break this season under Ronald Koeman’s tutelage. Following the footsteps of the likes of Ansu Fati, Riqui Puig, and Pedri, the young Spanish midfielder has made himself a regular feature in a Barcelona side that has had a perfect blend of youth and experience this season.

Moriba’s recent display in Barcelona’s outing against Osasuna has got him his fair share of plaudits – some even compared his goal scoring exploits from midfield to one of the very best in the world in Paul Pogba.

Moriba came off the bench to replace Sergio Busquets in the 67th minute, and help Barcelona hold on to their lead until full time – or help add another to their advantage.

The young Spaniard obliged to do the latter when Leo Messi collected the ball on the edge of the Osasuna penalty area and laid it off to Moriba, who feinted past David Garcia first and then curled his wonderful effort from 20 yards – which went through the hands of Sergio Herrera into the top left corner.

The strike was one of extraordinary quality and a goal that secured the all-important three points for Barcelona on the night. Barcelona held on to win 2-0 with goals from Jordi Alba and Moriba, and the talismanic Messi coming up with both assists – but it was Moriba who made most of the headlines on social media when he drew comparisons with Paul Pogba.

Fans compared Moriba’s best assets to Pogba and there are quite some similarities – Pogba is a top-class midfielder who’s athletic, has great technique, moves between the lines well and has a sniper of a shot in him – all of which are great attributes to have in any midfielder, and Ilaix Moriba definitely has the lot.
