Luis Suarez had his work cut out when he picked a loose ball just inside Valladolid’s half in the second half at the José Zorrilla Stadium.
With Atletico Madrid’s title hopes in the balance, the Uruguayan forward shifted the ball onto his weaker left foot, ran the length and buried it beyond Jordi Masip in the Valladolid goal to score the eventual winner.
It was a severely contested title race in Spain as it went down to the wire with both Atletico and Real Madrid in with a chance to win the league in the last matchday of the season. It needed Luis Suarez to hit two crunch goals in as many games for Diego Simeone’s men to lift the title last night.
