Video: Cristian Romero innovates rabona tackle against Chile

In what could be a never-ever-seen-before moment in football, Argentina defender Cristian Romero adjusted himself to thwart a Chile attack with the help of a ‘rabona’ clearance/tackle during the 1-1 World Cup qualifier draw at Estadio Único de Santiago del Estero.

The Juventus player on loan at Atalanta, Romero took Serie A by storm last season as he was declared the best defender in the league, with his performances at the back helping his side achieve 3rd spot in the points table.

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni further bolstered the 23-year-old’s season when he handed Romero his debut for the national team against Chile.

The Atalanta man was thrust into action early as he found himself in a 1v1 battle with Eduardo Vargas near the box and won it quite weirdly and wonderfully when he dished out an unconventional technique to clear the danger.
