Guillermo Maripan sends Lionel Messi for a hotdog with cheeky skill

Guillermo Maripan exacted revenge for years of humiliations defenders across the globe suffered at the hands of Lionel Messi when he bamboozled the Barcelona star with a La Croqueta near the touchline.

The moment occurred during the 78th minute of the 1-1 draw between Argentina and Chile in Rio de Janeiro in the ongoing Copa America.

La Pulga had already embarrassed La Roja with a gorgeous free-kick in the first half. Though Chile came back into the game in the second half courtesy of an Eduardo Vargas goal, Messi would go on to be involved in another headline-grabbing incident, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

With the clock running down at the Olympic Stadium, Messi tried to carve out an attacking manoeuvre from the right flank before being blocked by Maripan and co.

Although the Monaco centre-back won possession back for his side, he now found himself in a tight spot after winning the ball. With Messi pressing, the Chile center-back pulled off Andres Iniesta’s trademark skill move to leave the GOAT chasing shadows.

After more than a decade of dishing it out against several defenders, it was bound to come back at him sooner or later. In a way, it was a long time coming. Check out Maripan beating Messi in his own game below –
