There can be no doubt that Mohamed Salah has been the best player in the Premier League this season. The Liverpool man has been in fine form this season, scoring 22 goals and notching 13 assists in just 30 appearances.
These numbers have ensured that he tops both the goalscoring and assist charts in the league while his 8 goals and 1 assist in the Champions League have propelled Liverpool to the semi-final stage in the competition.
With only his debut season of 32 goals bettering his current form, it was no surprise that the Egyptian was awarded the Football Writer’s Association’s Footballer of the Year award on Friday.
The 29-year-old received 48% of the vote share which helped him finish ahead of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Declan Rice for the award. This win has put Salah level with Cristiano Ronaldo who was also presented with this accolade twice during his first spell with Manchester United.
Having already picked up the League Cup with Liverpool and runners up medal at AFCON 2022, Salah is on course for a quadruple with Liverpool and victory there would put him ahead of current Ballon d’Or leader Karim Benzema for the prestigious award.
With all eyes now on Liverpool and their Egyptian talisman who still has work to do, fans and rival players have already begun heaping praise on the forward for his stellar work so far this season.
The latest to join the fanfare are two Premier League players who probably know what Salah is all about considering they are right-wingers as well, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Leeds United’s Raphinha recently shared their appreciation of the Liverpool man.
During an interview with CNN Sports, Bowen was asked to name the best player in the PL as part of a quiz and the Englishman replied with the Liverpool forward’s name without any hesitation.
Raphinha too had only high praises for Salah as the Brazilian revealed during an interview with talkSPORT. “Over time and playing against players you get that experience and contact with them on the pitch you build an admiration for them. I’d say that Mohamed Salah is one of those for the way that he plays,” commented the Leeds man.
As Liverpool prepares to fight for the FA Cup, the PL and the UCL in the next two weeks, they would be looking towards their star forward to lead them into glory on all fronts.
