Football fans are left with little to talk about following the end of the 2022-23 campaign. But on the back of yet another hectic season, players are certainly relieved and are enjoying their summer breaks in different corners of the globe.
With no games on the calendar to micro-analyze, some social media users have started paying extra attention to their favourite players’ off-the-pitch antics and accordingly zoomed in on Paris Fashion Week, which attracted a number of high-profile footballers. Paul Pogba, Jude Bellingham, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho were all in attendance.
They didn’t strut their stuff down the catwalk but managed to garner as much attendance as the models thanks to their extravagant attires. Some even got the fans talking solely about their physical appearance. In particular, Sancho’s height has surprised many fans on Twitter.
Sancho, 23, is known for his silky dribbling and accurate through balls. Off the pitch, he’s even admired for his fashion sense, which is equally mesmerizing. But standing at 5ft 11in, he seldom opens the eye-brows of fans with his short stature or intimidates the opposing defenders. Instead, he expertly uses a low centre of gravity to his advantage while attempting take-ons.
Pogba, meanwhile, has used his superior physicality all his career to shield the ball from other players before making progressive runs. On the field, the difference between Sancho and the World Cup winner is not only underlined by the visible difference between their size but also by the way they operate with the ball at their respective feet. But that difference apparently vanished for a few seconds in Paris.
The Englishman reunited with his former Manchester United teammate Paul Pogba at the Pont Neuf bridge and exchanged hugs with the Juventus midfielder. In a clip from that meeting, Sancho surprisingly appears taller than the 6′ 3″ Frenchman.
As such, we did a little digging to unravel this ‘mystery’ and it didn’t take too long to understand the two reasons behind Sancho’s newly-increased height.
The England international was standing on a platform that wasn’t visible in the widely shared clip, leading to him appearing taller than Pogba.
Further, Sancho was also wearing a pair of chunky Derby shoes with extra-large heels that added an inch or two to his otherwise short stature.
Now that the mystery is solved, United fans will hope Sancho returns to full fitness for the pre-season tour after an underwhelming season. Like Pogba, the former Borussia Dortmund man is blessed with immense technical ability but has so far failed to live up to the expectations at United.
Sancho has been linked with an exit this summer; it’ll be a real shame if another top talent departs the club without lighting up the Theatre of Dreams, like Paris Fashion Week.
